Nedrox
Hi , i'm "new" to Fallout New Vegas modding and i have a few questions : When should i create a merged patch ?Should i clean the DLC files of Fallout New Vegas with FNVedit ?Should i clean mods (if they have any "dirty" files) with FNVedit ?If let's say my game starts crashing randomly where can i find the log files ?And are there any things that i should keep in mind when modding the game in order to make it work properly ? Ethreon
- after you are done with all the mods and every time you add a new mod, specially equipment mods.- no- most likely not, but it varies. See what the mod description/author say.- get NVAC and read the mod description. Don't add a bunch of mods at once. Add one, test a bit. Make sure you don't add too many textures and alike, engine's not too strong. Don't exceed 120-140 plugins.
dubiousintent
Sounds like you have some modding experience just to know to ask those questions. Suggest you start by reading the wiki article "FNV General Mod Use Advice" about some of the differences from other modded games you may be used to. Among other things that article suggests you start off with LOOT. It will tell you if a known plugin needs to be cleaned with FNVEdit. Otherwise the FNV mod creator community is pretty aware of "dirty edits", ITMs, etc., and it is not recommended as something to do wholesale. Some authors even maintain their ITMs are deliberate and necessary. I always check the comments on the mod download page first. (Just as an example: I only found it recommended to clean 7 out of over 200.) Log files will generally be in the game root folder. However, some need to be activated. Read the "Checklist" in the "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide which gives how to enable several. That is also the place to start if you get CTDs and other problems. Edit: And I agree with Ethreon's advice, who ninja'd me. -Dubious- Edited November 13, 2016 by dubiousintent
