I'm having trouble sticking with a full playthrough

I really want to beat this game, all of the DLCs uncluded all the way through. About a half a year ago, I did manage to do so with 60+ hours. I've always had trouble playing long RPG games all the way through, it's even harder when you can mod the game. I try to do things slightly differently, but I always end up not liking in and reverting back to my normal playstyle. Basically, I prefer a stealth, guns orientated character. Guns+sneak+explosives has always been one of my favorites. This playthrough, I'm guns+sneak+melee, I'm over 20 hours in, and I want to start over. I really need help. How do you some of you guys stick with one playthrough for over 80+ hours?

I usually work really hard to invest myself into the world, the atmosphere and the general roleplay related stuff. If I can't maintain that, then I get bored when playing RPG games. After nearly 90 hours or so in Dragon Age: Origins it started to get like that, so I quickly wrapped up the main campaign so it would be over. I invested over 100 hours in Skyrim and Fallout 4 before I started to feel even slightly bored, but for both of those games it was for different reasons.

Skyrim is just because the games bugged and behaving weirdly on the platform I am currently stuck playing on (PS3, sadly my PC is no more and I have no interest in buying it on PS4). As for Fallout 4, the gameplay has gotten really boring for me at this point, and I can't bring myself to go back into the shooting gallery. But I digress, I'm way off track now.

I suggest trying to create a back story for your character, what their motivations are and instead of focusing on finishing the story and the DLC, focus on just playing that character and let things come naturally as you feel they should. That is what I usually do if I need to really get into a game. Hope that helps.

I definitely do what I can to immerse myself in the world. I play hardcore, hardest difficulty, all that jazz. But I'll try to focus more on the role playing this time, instead of the "realisim". Thanks

I don't. I get bored after that amount of time, and I have no trouble keeping a full playthrough between 15-30 hours. Once you accept that you don't have to complete every minor objective that you come across, this isn't such a difficult feat. Play different characters with different goals and priorities and you'll experience everything eventually.

I am definitely a one playthrough guy. I am still playing the same playthrough I started over a year ago with hundreds of a mods installed. See, I think the way to ensure you never get bored is to never have a crisis of faith. I have a mission to be a good guy and to bring the best future to as many factions as humanly possible, only ever making compromises when faced with difficult decisions. This playthrough to me is the ideal playthrough I could ever do. If I were the Courier, it is the playthrough IIIII would do. Therefore, I don't have to pretend to be someone else. Every new adventure, every quest, every DLC, every mod, is a new situation where I can test to see how I - we - will make the best of it. There is sooooo much content to this game, I'll still be playing a year to come. And once I'm done, I'll be done, at least for a long while.

I've tried playing as other characters, evil ones sometimes, but I always got bored of it eventually. My advice to you, is that no matter what you do, believe in it. If you won't be yourself, then BE the character. Otherwise you'll just be going through the motions. Also, limit yourself. Moderation is key. Don't overpower your character with mods designed to do that. Natural progression of the game will already be doing that; you don't need to add to it.

Also, I only play 2-3 hours of the game a week, which is part of the reason I'm still going. You'll burn yourself out if you play too much. For me, I look forward every weekend to kicking back to some New Vegas with a friend present. And 2-3 hours isn't as small as it sounds. It's quite a lot, really. We've gone through Project Brazil, the main questline for the NCR, many side quests and faction quests, all the DLCs, Boulder Dome, many quest mods, Autumn Leaves, and now we're nearly done with Masterwolf/Cellblock Psycho's quest mod series. We still have plenty more to go, and it's going to be a blast.

I'm not telling any of you how to play. I'm just explaining how I do it. Maybe you'll want to give this way a try, or maybe part of it might inspire your own thing. Best of luck however you do it. In New Vegas, you'll need it. B'|

No problem, hope it helps you immerse yourself in the game more. Have fun.

I'm gunna roleplay as an ex-tribal. I've even given my courier a custom race and unique tattoos, I think this'll be interesting

Yeah, roleplay, roleplay, roleplay.

I played all Fallout´s aside Tatics, and the only one I can´t let it go is NV. The game gives a lot of oportunitys to play several diferent characters. (Damn, I really wish that we have more options like this game in the market :( )

I played a tribal woman once, low intelligence. I played a ridiculous number of cowboys. Scientist. Android. Hunter. Ex Van Graff. Mobster, sapper/sabouter........

By far, the most fun char I played was a post apocalyptic dandy. I´m gonna ask you a big amount of pacience to read about this guy, at the end of this post you will understand why I´m doing this, why some little changes can refresh this game entirely. VANILLA.

His traits: suave talker, gambler, greedy, party boy, natural leader and vain. What at the beginning is just a set of words, redefined the way I play. For example: In dialogues, I always pick the barter option, even if in real life, I think is not the smart choice. He´s a dandy, wich means NO ARMOR!!!!!! He only used the finests clothes, like Viva Las Vegas and Vera´s Dress, no exception. Later we back to this subject.

Basically, I prefer a stealth, guns orientated character. Guns+sneak+explosives has always been one of my favorites. This playthrough, I'm guns+sneak+melee

There´s not much difference, and IMHO, this little defines your char. Continuing with my character as an example. He can´t be a smooth talker without 9 in charisma (10 with implant), can he be? No. But NO ONE put 9 in charisma, including me, I have to change for this char. 9 in a primary statistic (also high number in Luck and Agility, because he´s a gambler) means that I have to lower others stats, like strengh and endurance.

I pick TWO in strengh, and decide that he´s a gun oriented char, with preference for one hand guns. In other words, the only weapon that he could use it appropriately at the begining was the 9mm pistol. Goodbye Sniper rifles. Goodbye shotguns. Goodbye Medicine Stick, my favorite weapon ingame.

A fully moded 9mm pistol is good, but I need Maria (I played in very hard). I have to kill Benny early, contrary to what I always do.

So things are changed with this little adjustements. I have to give up my favorite weapon, I have to change the order of my priority missions. But I have fun discovering new mechanics. Do you use rushing water? Turns Maria and Graham´s pistol into a f* machine gun. I can kill Yao Guais in a pinch. How about the NCR Emergency Radio? Nobody needs this, it´s easy to make a overpower char, but this guy can always use a extra gun at his side.

About the No armor subject. You can do this, without cheats. Have high survival and Cass as a companion and pops this combo:

1 Whisky

1 Wasteland Tequila

1 Nuka Cola Quartz

This give....................a DT = 20. TWENTY. With the dermal implant and the others from OWB, is more then a power armor. NAKED!!!!!!! Who uses alchool in this game? Almost nobody I bet.

Course, you have to look for ingredients to craft this itens, witch is also a bonus for fun.

And I can go on and on, talking about ferocity loyalty, infinite supply of stealth boys, reverse pickpocket, how he only eats special food like Bramih Wellington, how I have to masterized Caravan to match his gambler skills etc, but I guess that is enough to have a idea.

Sorry for the long post and to transform your thread about me, but I hope that inspires you to make some different chars, worth the trouble. :)
