Omeletter
I got there by the main quest, now I have a filled inventory and 6 crimson nirnroots. I want to finish the quest - both main and side quest, but I don't want to leave the place forever. Can I return to it later on if I want to? It seriously seems to me that if I leave it I wouldn't have a way to get in, because the attunement sphere I used to get in might reset along with the area. WorldShaperDragon
First, the sphere stays in your inventory, because there are other ruins that go to blackreach, and the stairs stay permanently lowered. Furthermore, there are a large number of lifts to the surface directly from blackreach, and if you ride the lift up, you can then open the gate at each lift's station on the surface, providing fast access to blackreach. xlr8films
Has anyone ever found a reason, aside from the MQ, to go back? I thought it was great my first time but have no reason (that I know of) to return.
Lachdonin
There is a special named Dragon down there, activated by using Unrelenting Force on the orb thingy in the center of the cavern. There is also the Crimson Nirnroot quests. Third, it is the only place (That i know of) which has Geode Deposits, which you can mine for Soul Gems. Fourth, its pretty bad ass. WorldShaperDragon
crimson nirnroot: its part of the quest Return to Your Roots as well as being the second best alchemy ingredient for damage health (second only to Jarrin Root, which you can only get once w/o cheating (duplication glitches or console codes)) Also, falmer are GREAT for leveling up sneak. Why? They are blind: as such, they can only detect you by hearing you. Get darkbrotherhood shrouded boots (they silence your footsteps), and then backstab them all for massive damage (having at least the 6x damage perk helps a lot). Sneak attacks are the fastest legitimate way to level up sneak. Same goes for the inert Dwemer Centurions in their frames (except they are blind and deaf until activated or attacked) Edit: also yes, the soul gems, and I totally did not know about that dragon! I must go check it out. Edit2: yep, confirmed the dragon Edited December 24, 2011 by Wolf of the azar
Susurruss
Thre's a lift near the Alchemist's Lab (or whatever its called). Exit the lab, turn 90degrees to your right, you should see it. The others I have no landmarks for, but there are at least three others.
