Why can't I fix this

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have question that I can't seem to fix for anything.

Why is it when I add a modded chest ingame does it have stolen flag on it?

Um... I guess to be more descriptive,

I've tired to adjust the location for some mods here on Nexus to a different place ingame but they always come up with a stolen flag...

So can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong and give me advice with this perhaps?

Could the location (cell) where the chests are be owned by someone? Like a shop or the home of an NPC? Maybe something like that might have the chest flagged as owned by someone else (and therefore the contents inside it "stolen" when taken by the player)?

Also, could there be a mod that dynamically adjusts stolen flags? I think Enhanced Economy does that for NPCs who have died in a city, to make looting them illegal. The feature is optional, but since it is possible for a mod to dynamically flag stuff as stolen, could that be it somehow? If all else fails, that is.

Hopefully that helps a bit. If someone has a better idea of what the issue could be, I would also love to hear it. :)

Actually from what you both said, I finally managed to figure out my problem. I'm idiot for not knowing sooner...

I did not set it to player owned and it only took me a few minutes to find the option and fix it.

Thank you so much for the help both of you.

It really helped.

This is most likely the case. If a container or item is not explicitly owned, it will inherit ownership, if any, from the cell it is in.

Assuming the chest(s) contain items for the player, simply set the ownership to the player when placing them. Alternatively, place them in a public cell (outside, dungeon, etc.) or a player house.

A note about that last part, player houses are fine as long as you remember a player owns no houses at the start of a new game in vanilla Oblivion.
