Mouse buttons unresponsive in game.

Hi All,

Playing Fallout 4 on my PC and until today have been thoroughly enjoying myself.

Have only recently started adding Mods, minly for more workshop / settlement options.

My issue is that today I have loaded my game and the mouse buttons are unresponsive.

I can't really uset them to make menu selections.

Aim down scope, (RMB) works first time as in it zooms to scpe when pressed and zooms out when released.

Second press zooms to scope and stays there when released. You then have to mash the button and hope it will respond.

Same with LMB. Sometimes it fires your weapon and sometimes it does nothing.

In build mode sometimes you can use the mouse, sometimes you cant. Sometimes the object just keeps on rotating when you release the button.

Dialogue and menus are exactly the same.

Keyboard input is fine.

Using a wired mouse that works fine outside of the game.

I have the following mods installed.

Better Vendor Stalls

Brighter Settlement Lights

Castle Rebuilt (new addition but same issue occurs with and without it loaded)

CWSS Redux v2 - Crafteable working showers

Ground - Ground

Half width Shack Walls

Homemaker - Expanded Settlements 1.41

Housekeeping - Scavenging Deluxe

Immersive Scrapping 4.0

More Guard Posts

Place Everywhere

Settlement Objects Expansion Pack

Snap 'n Build

Spring Cleaning

Tidy Setlers (new addition but same issue occurs with and without it loaded)

We Are The Minutmen (currently not enabled as it was a new addition and everything was working fine before)

Workshop Wall Filler

Running Nexus Mod Manager and F4SE

Also running the Season Pas version of the game with all the expansion packs.

Hardware - Older PC tat doesnt even sweat at thi ssort of game. i7 920, 24GB Ram, GTX980

Any solutions or help gratefully received as I have now come to a halt until I can actually control the game.

The plot thickens.

I have spent today playing with different mods enabled and disabled to no effect.

Have uninstalled the Creation Kit just incase that was doing it. NO

Have scoured my .ini files and compared them to my original incase there had been some alterations made. NO

Have tried a different mouse, (even though I know the mouse works fine outside of Fallout). NO!

Have remapped the "Action, (fire)" and "Aim" keys to the "comma" and "full stop" keys on the keyboard and everything works as it should. Game is unplayable like this but it all works fine and with all mods installed and running!!!!!

So I have worked out that there is definitely some sort of software issue with the mouse recognition of the LMBa and RMB ONLY, (all other mouse functios work as they should) within the game and now I'm stuck again.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE somebody give me some help or a suggestion. I have exhausted my abilities here.

Many thanks!!!

Another update.
Seems nobody has any ideas so I bit the bullet and after backing up all my save files I nuked the entir install, mods, the lot.

I then reinstalled the game from Steam and left it vanilla.

Went in to both .ini files, (one in Docs and the other in steam library) and set the controller enabled to "0".

My mouse butttons still "stick" or fail to respond as soon as the game launches to the first menu.

Outside of the game they all work absolutely perfectly.

Even tried rolling back my Nvidia drivers incase that was teh issue.

May have to face the fact that this game is just broken and give up on Bethesda games if this isgoing to be the case.

Very sad.

Why are you blaming the game seeing as how you are the only one having this issue and no one else is? And tell me why are you changing the controller to '0' in the .ini files?

Hi Rabbit, Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm not necessarily blaming the game but I have done as much as I can to eliminate any other causes.

Mouse hardware works fine outside of the game as does my spare mouse and both work on other laptops with no issue.

Only issues are once the game loads and it is a repeatable error.

Trying to remove all other possibilities, GFX drivers, Mods etc but still the same error.

I have set the controller to "0" as this is the overwhelming advice from multiple sources for issues with Bethesda software assuming that the game will be controlled from a games controller, (a hang up from developing for consoles as a priority to PC's and then porting it seems).

This is the only mouse fault I can find referenced anywhere and is the only real solution that seems to be offered / seems to work.

Actual solution quoted is, "Open fallout4prefs.ini, find bGamepadEnable and set it to 0."

Can't think what else could be affecting the game.

Haven't changed any hardware recently, have only allowed steam updates etc.
Mouse driver is latest recommended one etc and the same one that was working a fortnight ago.

Just stumped and frustrated.

No. Not using a gamepad just a mouse.

Sadly don't own one and have never been able to get to grips with them either.

One of the reasons I'm a PC user and not a console owner really.

In the interest of elimination I shall try setting all references to gamepad to 1 and see if that has an effect.

Willing to try almost anything at this point as I am completely stumped.

In that case I see no reason for you to change the .ini file. I haven't and I've never heard of anyone doing so in that way before. Did you know if your mouse work before changing it?

Didn't change that line until after I had started having issues. I found that solution whilst searching for Mouse not responding. Its the only issue and solution I could find.

Have been building a replacement PC and keep meaning to commision it and think I may have a go tomorrow. CLean build, clean OS and clean install of Steam and Fallout 4.

See what happens.
