Falcata
I've been spending a lot of time trying to optimize oblivion so that it would run better on my system, and I think I went too far. The framerate slows to a crawl within any of the cities, along with the interior of certain buildings. The worst I've seen are the cities of Bravil, Leyawiin, and Castle Bruma. I'm guessing it's due to the more complex meshes in these regions. What parameter in Oblivion.ini would be doing this, and how do I fix it? Povuholo
I don't know what settings you've changed, but if you really can't find out what's wrong you can delete the Oblivion.ini, and a new one will be generated the next time you start the game. Of course you'd lose all your optimisations then. Maybe you can post your .ini and bold print the parts you have edited?

I'll have to start fresh, I guess.
ResidentWeevil2077
Optimizing isn't trying to get the most stunning visuals - it means finding a balance between that and performance. If your computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements, anything else you've tried to do to increase the visual quality won't help the performance of your system any. Better visuals = more processing power from your system. INI tweaking will help, but if your system can't handle playing Oblivion, then the only thing that can be done is to upgrade to a better system - one that meets or exceeds the recommended (not minimum) system requirements. Falcata
My main interest is improving the games performance, with the visuals coming second. For the most part, my system meets or exceeds the recommended system specs, but it doesn't run as well as it normally would. My system runs on Linux, and so I have to play the game using the Wine library. Wine is a reimplementation of the windows API that lets you use windows software and games on unix systems, but it isn't perfect, so the game doesn't run as well as it would in it's native environment. I should note that the game is surprisingly stable when running under Wine (can't say the same for the construction kit).
ResidentWeevil2077
Ah, I see now - well then, disregard my comments
Falcata
I identified the problem. I had enabled several of the multithreading options for the game. Thing is, I thought they would be okay to use because I have a pentium4 with hyper-threading enabled.
damstachizz
Hyperthreading and multithreading are different ;)
