Shacks210
What if I give my save file to one of you?
damanding
I walled in my Sanctuary with the mod vonBennett is talking about, if you want to see it I uploaded a couple photos to my profile page. I also tried to post the pics here but the 250kb limit is annoying.I used the 1x1 concrete foundations (another mod) to make a level base, so they'd snap easily and be straight. You can also use those to make a walking platform behind the wall, or turret stands. Didn't take too long, actually, and I'm pretty happy with it. I have four lockable gated entries. May post some more photos later.Ok, to reproduce what Jimmygitto said: Use 1x1 concrete foundations from this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7780/?. Because they are very tall foundation pieces that sink into the ground, they make a great base for your fence. Start where the ground is high, sink the foundation pieces in deep, then keep snapping them side by side around your perimeter. Where the ground is low you'll see more of the foundation pieces sticking out of the ground. The point is that you're going around the border of your settlement and creating a nice flat, even floor with them. Then build your Covenant style walls on top of these foundation pieces. See the picture from Jimmy's profile for an example: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/images/55943/? Edit to clarify: Instead of using Place in Red, you're snapping the foundation pieces to each other, this way they naturally form a nice and even surface to build on. jimmygitto
Thanks for the help clarifying, damanding. Meant to come back on here and answer Shacks further. And you made a good point, because I actually have never used placeinred. (I've thought about it a bunch, of course, but I'm a wuss about the script extending, I just have this fear it risks instability.) I did the wall you see in the pictures just the way you described. The 1x1 pieces actually place and then snap together really well, props to the mod author. (DDProductions, if I remember correctly.) They are a staple for me, I use them for a bunch of stuff. So you can just cruise along in a line placing them, then come back and cruise along with fence pieces on top of it. Or you can just use the foundation pieces as your wall, I did that in a few strategic places and it looks pretty good. In one corner of Sanctuary I made concrete walls for my two buildings and just made them integral to my perimeter. Shacks if you have any more questions or need any more tips, I'll check back here soon. Also we can do something with your save file if you really want, but probably not necessary.I put a couple more pics up of the rest of the perimeter if you want to look. I'd like to see more angles. I do have a mod that moves the green wall out more, giving more space you build in too.
damanding
Another point, Place in Red is a pretty outdated mod. Place Everywhere that uses F4SE is generally considered the best choice for that. Also, there's no reason to fear Place Everywhere or F4SE. The Script Extender programs for various Bethesda games have been around a really long time. They're not doing anything malicious (or they would have been caught many years ago). I'm personally waiting before I use them until Bethesda stops being so update happy because every time they release an update the Script Extender team has to update their software to match it and you can't use older versions of SE with a newer patch, they're version to version specific. So that basically puts your game out of commission for a few days until the SE team can update. Place Everywhere is also an extremely popular mod with good support. vonBennett
@vonBennet How did you get the railing for the walls? I found the walls you are using but I haven't found the railing yet. The railings are located within the concrete building supplies section. It is down on the far end. The long straight railings and the short straight railings are used for the tops of the walls; the large curve railings are used with the turret mounts and the short reinforced straight railings are used with the guard platforms. Shacks210
Ok, so I can't get the walls to work the way I want with the 1x1 platforms. Nothing will click together. So if anyone is interested in helping me out, maybe give you my save file (I don't know how) and have you build my Trump wall for me. lolI'd rather use my save file so I don't have to start over again and it seems easier than making a mod or something.
