New to Skyrim Mods - Got some Questions

OK, because I haven't put enough ranks into Lore: Mod Conversions, I need to review and make sure I have this straight:

First, Download the mod you want manually, and open it into a folder rather than using the Nexus Mod Manager.

Second: Second, if the mod is in .ESM format, just plunk it into the right folder, you're golden.
If it's loose files, load them into the Construction kit, then save them. If there's models, use the Nif Optimizer (I assume that's this one here)

Third, Profit.

If I have that right, then it all seems simple enough. My personal itch, though, is I have some Oblivion mods I'd like to convert... will that same process work for them?

First of all, your procedure is close but not quite correct.

Download mod manually.

Install with NMM using green plus sign.

If mod has BSA you will need to extract those into loose files and place them in your game according to how they are set up (data/meshes/whatever).

Move the mesh files to folder with SSE NIF Optimizer bat and exe file. Then run bat file.

Return the mesh files to original location.

Load esp in SSE CK then save it to change to 64 bit format.

This works with most mod as long as they do not require one that has not been ported over to SSE yet (SKSE, SkyUI, etc)
