Kasumidoll
The Armamentarium mod adds in some artifacts you can go search for, two of which are found by solving some riddles. I have figured the first part of both of these (item collection), but after nearly a month I cannot solve the second half of either to actually -find- the items. Here are the riddles, please help me figure them out. I even tried using the construction set to find their locations... Fifty creatures of the nightMust meet the fate and dieTheir dusts need to be thereWhere the shadows rest and dwellThen you can take my starAt now forgotten shrine of mine The essence of fire that walks on the groundThe essence of cold that creeps around The essence of storm between the stonesThe elements of those without the bonesEach thirty times gathered, thirty times soldThirty times offered in the ancient voidDeep under the scales of a skittish gameShattered by the black hunter chasing a prey
Deleted2783630User
Off the top of my head, first riddle must be talking about vampires and vampire dust. Second riddle seems to be talking about atronachs and their salts (fire, frost, and void).
Kasumidoll
Yeah I figured that much out. I need help finding out -where- to take them..
Deleted2783630User
Well, "Then you can take my star / At now forgotten shrine of mine" could be Azura's shrine. And "Shattered by the black hunter chasing a prey" could be Hircine's shrine.
DrakeTheDragon
I'd say it's rather fire, frost and storm salts, then ectoplasm, for "The elements of those without the bones". It could also be the void salts though, to make the Atronach collection complete.I'm a little bit clueless what "thirty times gathered, thirty times sold" means. Are you to sell them in a shop? Perhaps not just "any" shop but a special one? "Deep under the scales of a skittish gameShattered by the black hunter chasing a prey"could be the clue for where to sell them. The hunter could be Hircine, but the rest of the riddle is still lacking its application, if it indeed is Hircine."skittish" game sounds like a clue, as it is not just your everyday's word, "skittish"... is there anything this could be refering to? (My memory's worth a crap sometimes)edit: just google'd it, this is what you get for not knowing the language. Makes much more sense now, and no need to search for anything with "skit" in its name anymore. "skittish game" is the clue, "what" skittish game is the question... I just still don't know what it could be refering to.And "Shattered by" doesn't really suit the Hircine's Shrine idea much. Who could the "Black" hunter be instead, "shattering" things? And what's with this "deep under the scales of a skittish game"? Is there any statue or something with "scales" in Cyrodiil? Like a Justicia (which definitely is "not" anywhere in Cyrodiil, of course, just an example) or something like that? edit: Yikes, totally forgot about the "Thirty times offered in the ancient void". So we're searching for "the ancient void deep below the scales of a skittish game shattered by the black hunter chasing a prey".Man, if just I had some free time, I'd so go searching around in the game world now to chase down the meaning of this! ...of course it could help installing Armamentarium first, or maybe the vital points required for this will be missing in the world! I've read people writing the "void" in Elder Scrolls always referred to the empty space around the dungeon corridors and such... but where is a place in game where you can drop something into this space without it looking like just a gap or hole in geometry? Kasumidoll
I totally found the Azura one. There is a "lost" shrine hidden in Shadow's Rest Cavern that you put the vampire dusts in and then you can take her staff. I went through the strategy guide maps to find anything that had a name that seemed to "fit" the Magnus riddle but I had no luck..
evendel
Each thirty times gathered, thirty times soldThirty times offered in the ancient voidDeep under the scales of a skittish gameShattered by the black hunter chasing a prey Ok, here's what I've figured out if anyone is still looking. The first line I believe means you either "gather" or kill/loot chests until you find 30 units of the ingredients, or you can buy from shops...just acquire 30 units of fire, frost, and void salts, and 30 ectoplasm. The second line I'm willing to chalk up to the previous thought, they must be dumped down a well found at the location. The last two lines took me a little extra thought and digging, but I did figure it out...though it leads to a minor gripe I'll mention at the end. The "black hunter" made me think the author was referring to something along the Black Panther River, since it was shattered I thought it might be near the Mouth of the river. So I loaded up trusty ol' UESP's Oblivion Map and found...nothing. No game references at all in the nearby ruins and forts and dungeons. So I started scouting along the river to the north, the Silverfish river...thinking maybe that was the "scales of a skittish game" reference and I needed to find a hunter reference along that instead. Still no dice. Since I'm no good at hiding things, if you don't want the answer to the riddle, stop reading. I then followed the Black Panther River along, looking for anything that might help me. On one of the southern tributaries there is a dungeon called Shattered Scales Cave. I believe what the author was trying to achieve is calling fish "skittish game" like a hunter, not skittish game like something children would play. It's not a reference many Americans would get I don't think since unless you are yourself an angler or a hunter we don't tend to think of animals in terms of "game". So, deep inside the Shattered Scales Cave (the "skittish game"), which is along the Black Panther River (the "black hunter") you will find a coffer and a well that drops into darkness. I haven't tested this yet, but I assume if you drop the 30 units of each ingredient down the well then the coffer should generate the Staff of Magnus. So here's my minor gripe...I hate it when I find an awesome mod like this, something so well integrated with the world that it makes me think, that makes me want to see the new models, that makes me want to collect the cool retextures, is made by a person who doesn't speak English as their primary language. It just breaks the immersion for me. I will admit that while I've had some fun figuring out the few riddles I have so far, having the grammar feel so awkward throws me off. Don't get me wrong, I love this mod and would recommend it to ANYONE who wants a bit more variety in their loot, and even more to people who want a bit of a challenge in hunting new artifacts...I just wish someone else (because I'm also ridiculously lazy about some things) could go through and "update" the mod to make all the added text a bit more easily read. esperantoeff
Thanks for posting your findings. I love a good puzzle, but sometimes I start to wonder if the mod's even installed right...on a side note, it's kind of the nature of riddles to phrase things in uncommon or misleading ways. I've never been hunting in my life and 'skittish game' doesn't seem like THAT much of a stretch, so I'm not sure if what you're referring to is even a language barrier issue, or just an intentional part of the challenge. Personally, I think it's pretty admirable that people even bother translating their work to languages they don't speak fluently, or sometimes at all, even if the result isn't always grammatically perfect. waotaka666
Hi everyone! Its been a long time since someone write something here. There was many question about this riddle: "The essence of fire that walks on the groundThe essence of cold that creeps aroundThe essence of storm between the stonesThe elements of those without the bonesEach thirty times gathered, thirty times soldThirty times offered in the ancient voidDeep under the scales of a skittish gameShattered by the black hunter chasing a prey" (I have add the location on the map) 1. You will enter to the location and walk through whole cave.2. You will enter Shattered Scales Long Run. At the and of this map you will find...3. You will find well ( this well will look like it was from Ayleid Ruins) and near this well you find Ayleid Cask!4. In this Cask you have to put: a) 30x fire saltsb) 30x frost saltsc) 30x void saltsd) 30x glow dust. Thats all.Have a good fight with the new stuff called Magnus( and new bonus from it). TheMastersSon
Well the specific secret location name is given in the last two lines of this riddle. Also, in context, the word game clearly refers to animals and not a contest. "Under the scales of a game" doesn't make much sense while "Under the scales of an animal" does. If I had to make a criticism of this puzzle it's that the line "The elements of those without the bones" refers to glow dust and not ectoplasm. It's very probable I never would have figured that out unless I had read it here. It's a given that ghosts and wraiths are boneless, has the same been claimed for Will 'o the Wisps?
