rbx3
I know it's probably been asked before (didn't find this specific overhaul with a search), or there might even be a mod that does this, but here goes: Skyrim is probably made a bit less fun by the lack of skill tree restrictions. Every well-played Skyrim character is a Renaissance person, maximum expert in every skill tree. Most likely, every character has also taken advantage of the synergies inherent in the crafting skill trees. In most stories that Skyrim could be related to, the characters are not, and even the gods are not, the top expert in everything. That is, unless one is in a cheesy story where the protagonist is all-powerful. In the mod that I am thinking about, the character can only be the top expert in one skill tree. You can only be the best at one thing, because other people have lives and skills too. You can have "secondary" ability in a limited set of other skills, or you can forego expertise to be a Jack of All Trades (but master of NONE). Most especially, one should not be able to be the expert in more than one crafting skill. Enchanting, Alchemy, and Blacksmithing should not be all simultaneously mastered. One can be great at one, but only at best "fairly good" in the other two. Likewise, people are not generally expert in all fighting skills simultaneously. One can be great at one weapon skill only, and one armor skill only. Blocking should count as a weapon. The stealth skills might need a little more attention, but similar principles should be at play. Generally you don't expect the expert fighter to also be the expert speaker. It should be possible to be the best speaker in the world, but that means that all weapon and armor skills are secondary at best. Also, one cannot be the top expert at more than one of these stealth skills, either. How to switch, because RPG is all about allowing choice? It should be difficult, and should cause immediate loss of some expertise in an abandoned skill. It should not allow cheesing the system, by abandoning one armor skill and becoming an instant expert in the other one, just to have two max armor skills. In the transition period, one should lose some points and perks in the abandoned skill immediately, but then lose it down to the secondary or tertiary level gradually. Once the new skill is above 75, the abandoned skill must be at 50. Secondary should be 75 at maximum, possibly. Tertiary is 50 at maximum. A Jack of All Trades would have at maximum 75 in all skills. Everybody else should have 1 skill at maximum 100, maybe 5 more at maximum 75, and the rest at maximum 50. This means that you cannot all at one time do everything. You might need some help from a follower to do what you cannot do. You won't be Chuck Norris, but maybe you will have fun!
Novem99
And what exactly is preventing you to play just like you described it? No one's forcing you to spend your perk points.
rbx3
But something is forcing me to gain points in the trees. The perk points can be ignored, but the skill increases can't be. *We are also up against gamer psychology here. Gamer culture says that if it is cost-less then you must buy it. This can limit fun even when someone is not aware of it. Skyrim gives us the default option of having an all-everything character. Some mods limit many things all across the board (Requiem), but I'm pointing at one surgical set of limitations.
