Skyrim mod - realistic carrying system

Obviously, in real life, you can't lug around three sets of armor, 2 iron greatswords, 2 broadswords, 56 potions, 2 sets off dragon bones, and loads of other useless items...unless you have some kind of organised carrying system.

I propose to create an overhaul to the way items are stored in the player's inventory, by adding a unique 'bag' system.

The mod will work like this - (You must start a new save game for the mod to activate)

When the dragon attacks Helgen, when you're inside the keep with either Hadvar or Ralof, there is a chest next to the door. Inside the chest is a large rucksack. Once you equip it in the inventory under Apperal, your carry weight changes from the default (250?) to 20. (Go with me here). The rucksack is shown on your back (I'm thinking about using the knapsack model, but retextured to a brownish colour).

When you reach Riverwood, if you head into the Riverwood Trader and speak with the owner, he will sell a small belt satchel, which increases your carry weight by 5 or 10. You can equip two of these at a time, one on each side of your belt.

I'm also thinking about adding a few more satchels and bags, and maybe splitting the mod into three seperate ESPs:-

One for a warrior-type player, which includes the large rucksack and some materials that can be used to bump up the base carry weight by about 10 or 20.

One for a mage-type player, which includes 2-3 satchels and a smaller rucksack.

One for a thief-type player, which includes a bandolier of satchels (like on the Thieves Guild armor) that each have a carry weight of 2 of 3. Also a small rucksack.

I might also add a perk for each of the ESPs, but for now, tell me what you think of this idea! Would you use it?

Thanks, RitchieTheMerc.

While being realistic for realistic's sake, it would make the game not fun at all. A total carry capacity of up to 60ish? Would have to run back to town every 3-5 minutes while clearing through a dungeon, and forget looting a dragon (one set of bones and scales alone will overload you even if you went naked). No, not fun at all.

I love it, realism is always fun, hope you make this happen.

Oh, and if you do, make sure the models will fit all armors, we don't want clipping ;)

Yeah, that's something I'll have to try and figure out. Maybe I'll have to make a seperate model/model placement on the skeleton of the player for each set of armor, which would be annoying. But if it means it'll look better, I'll do it.

There is a mod coming, "Total Realism Overhaul," that will have horses more as pack horses, so you can clear a dungeon and take all that is truly valuable. What would an adventurer really spend all the time to strip down every single thing, that is just ridiculous and its not like money is hard to come by.

I would definitely use this mod. Hopefully, like mentioned, without clipping, as that kills some of the immersion from a.... immersion mod

RitchieTheMerc, you might want to contact that modder and see if you want to join together, or make them at least compatible.

So unless you can acquire a horse early enough (not easy), and then drag that horse through the dungeon with you (not very realistic), again, you would be running back and forth to the surface over and over again just to get enough junk in the first 5 hours of the game to be able to buy basic supplies and some crappy armor. Not fun. Of course, if you think all that running back and forth is fun and enjoyable, then more power to you! However, I don't think the average player or even the average hardcore player will think that is very fun. JMO!

Well maybe you shouldn't take everything that isn't nailed down?

Maybe you should focus on the things that are worth something.

Maybe the fact that it is worthwhile taking everything is broken.

I would like a system that while having realism, purses for gold, satchels for alchemy and a multitude of different bag types that allow different kinds of loot in them, you wouldnt be able to carry more staffs by getting extra pockets sewn to your vest for instance, but maybe a few more gems and such..

Well this could be cool, but then your horse should be a packmule as well, so you can store items you really want to take with you...well if s*** hits the fan and your horse dies your are kinda damned, but with a horse as a packmule, it would at least make it a little more interresting. I like the realism though, kinda forces you to think twice about what you pickup and not.
