I think what happened is you simply heard a lot of different things about the shots and no one fully explained what they were LS. Nor did anyone take the time to explain vaccines to you or what this one is for.

Yes, you can get tetanus from stepping on a rusty nail. The thing is, the rusty nail had the little organism on it already that causes you to get Lock Jaw. My grandfather watched his brother die from it for two weeks... two weeks of starving to death. Their mother nearly went mad watching him. I think this particular vaccine is a good thing.

You can be allergic to something in some shots, check out the National Health website for more information on immunization shots. There is actually a list of people who should NOT get each shot. It depends on the shot and the kid, some say no immuno depressed kids (transplants) others say if you are allergic to eggs, etc. You need to check before the doctor (and the doctor needs to ask) gives you the shot.

As far as side effects, you are probably hearing all the flack about Autism. I don't blame you. All three of my kids have some form of it, and it would be nice to blame the shots. On the other hand, no research done well supports either conclusion, for or against. The main argument for most seems to be how many kids are getting and how so soon, such as in very small infants. Since you are getting one, and as an adult, in body if nothing else, I really don't think it can mess with your development at this time and cause Autism or some other developmental disorder.

Not trying to get into flaming or a discussion like the others going on here. Just trying to let you know, I don't think you will get something from this one, and it is one they recommend you get a booster for every so often as an adult even. If you are still scared, what most people don't know is you can refuse on a "religious exemption." Basically, it is for those that have a moral objection to it. Most states won't tell you you have the right to refuse, and depending on the state, you actually don't get kicked out of school unless there is an epidemic. Tetanus epidemic? Since it isn't contatious, wonder why they did it. I have NO idea why they just gave you all a shot across the board. I would HOPE they actually asked for immune records first and didn't just give kids shots without seeing if they were needed. If you had one in the last I think 7? years, you probably didn't need it. I have used the exemption part for my kids because the military lost their immune records and I refused to revaccinate them assuming they had no shots. If they already had problems, I had NO idea what it would do to them at 2 and 3 to get them all over again. So I told the school I was refusing and then told the doctor to immunize them assuming from that date that they were up to date. I hate paperwork!

i get the flu some times and i fight it off by myself. Its true that you can contract the flu from the shot (ive heard) never actually had one myself, but if its required by the school then nothing you can do but B about it. Never need a flu shot or a technus shot because i havent eaten spam out of a razor sharp can that you could decap someone with

I thought this thread was dead a month ago....

Anyway, I've taken my final shot, and my arm was stiff a few days, but it's fine now. No mental illness.....

i say no.

i think it is the individual getting the shot's choice of whether or not to get it, not the government's or your parent's.

If it was not for innoculations half the world would be dead.

Unfortunately the individuals rights here must be circumvented by the safety of the whole. Most innoculations do not harm and are far more beneficial to mankind.

And when all you people without innoculations get sick who do you think is ogong to pay for your medical care when you cant afford it?

The taxpayers.

And since I have had 55 operations and more needles stuck in me that a long-lived herion addict I think I can speak and say that a few needles never killed anyone. But due to my respiratory condition not having widespead outbreaks of many illnesses probably has saved my butt on more than one occasion.

My daughter is 10 and gets all her shots. And when she gets older she will get the shot for the Human Papalomia virus, which if I had when I was young or my mother had had I would not have suffered (and still be dealing) through 55 operations and 2 tracheotomies.

i understand how you feel about the shots and things, but people like me, who are immune to just about everything aside from constantly mutating viruses like the cold, dont need them. i have not caught anything besides the chicken pox twice lol.

i know the shots dont hurt, but i could be doing something more productive with my time. i suppose i am a bit biased though :/

But how and when does one KNOW they are immune? Have you ever been exposed to most things that are innoculated against? Or perhaps, as is often the case, you are a carrier but dont get ill. If you are not innoculated then you can carry to others and not even know it.

I understand your point, but it is so little time, effort, very safe and if one can not afford it all innoculations for children are free from the health depar in all the US. As far as shots for the flu, pnenomia, etc. That is somewhat different and the debate is still on as to the effectiveness of these vaccines with our current science and the mutation rate of these illnesses.

Well Various things should be considered, when children get shots at school. ( when i went to school they didnt do this poo. ) If my child has to get vaccinations from school, i'll tell he school no. I would rather take my child to my Family Doctor, i dont want some stranger putting a needle in my childs arm. I may seem paranoid, but it aint happening, i dont know what it is. Could be part of old lil' Bush's Patriot act. i would feel comfortable knowing My family doctor gave my kid the vaccine, not some stranger at school. Them people get pissy when you ask questions. the Family doc, dont.

In most states the family dr usually does. In WV we are required upon registering in Kindergarden that the shot record is presented. However for those who cant or wont vaccinate the other options must be made available.
