Hi I usually use the main page to see what's mod out and waht's interesting to download but , the hot files seems bugged as I cannot go past the first entries , and anyway when I select show the top mods it always shows the same and the same over and over .... is not possible to fix somehow to show more hot mods or the like like number of endorsements or may be even by author's kudos?

Anyway It woudl be nice to add also an recently updated files along with the hot and new ... so I would know what was updated there ....

To go beyond what is 'showcased' (those shown with a pic on the front page) you will need to go up to the 'files' button, and in the drop down select top 100. Then you will get a list of various 'most endorsed' (or 'Hot') types of files. Be sure to 'hover' over the 'files' button and not click it. Alternatively, click on the small green arrow to the right of the Hotfiles lable and you will be taken to the top 25 list. The same arrow on the latest files lable takes you to a reverse cronological order of files that have been released - the newest files will be first with no other sorting done.

The showcased hot files change weekly - but not all at once. As many mods are regularly updated, it was decided to not include those in the showcase hot files to give truly new files a better chance.

As for kudos, those are for individuals, not specifically for mod authors - anyone can get a kudo, and anyone can give one. For example, you can have many kudos, and no mods at all here.

Give kudos to members who are helpful or who's comments you especially like - Or for any other reason you choose.

how bout mods that are not new but constantly updated and get more and more endorsements but won't be featured couse they are old or they didn't have superboost of endorsements by beginning?

and How about knowing what is updated?

For example compare those two mods one is more endorsed than the other , and almoust have the same number of downloads , but one is hot file the other not why that?

It would be nice to see updated mods getting on to the Hot Files tab, instead of just strictly new ones.

There is already a long and very well thought out thread on the private mod authors forum about just this issue: How to get mods which aren't just new more exposure.

@prometheus

we have a whole disussion about that in the mod author area of the forum... think youre allowed to participate, didnt you author some mods?

anyway to quickly summarize, the hot files are not very liked by many for its many wrongs... the folks in that threa dover there are having their heads smoking thinking of a better alternative

and sorry should mod authors not be allowed to talk about our secret meetings... during newmoon nights... by the grove... by the old oak tree... with all our depraved rituals :D

I couln't find this thread but since it is to imrove the forum / site I think this is a more appropriate subforum isn't it?

may be that thread should be moved here as there are many subforums on the different games but one for the mainsite showcase ....

I woudl also like to sugest different "wait" times for endorsement or just a reducction of it ....

lot of times they are just meshes , new weapons and stuff , why wait an hour to endorse? that way ppl just forget to , instead a quicker endorsement woudl be better , like 10 minutes or 15 mins , for large mods like overhauls , retextures , quests etc may be an hour is better , but the whole thing should also be split into categorization of hot files and not just the first that get most endorsements in the first week , couse a mod could get the most endorsements much after but never make up to the hot file showcase that help a lot for it's aknowledgement ..

Also a hot file updates would be nice too ....

popularity should be based also on a math numeric function of downloads/redownloads/endorsements/kudos and what's actually done in multiplicators ...

like new from scratch item should get like a x3 multiplicator , retextures a x 2 and other minor variations a x1 and so on ... calculating a sorth of math formula to get a better popularity index .... something like the google rating ...

People are just looking more into the new files or hot files, theother files that got submitted and didn't hit a supersized endorsement in the first days may be couse released at a bad timing ( like when not many people online) justget lost and forgotten ... this thing shoudl be changed and added a new line section of the updated mods , and also allow the showcase for endorsements and for novelty as well for some other factors to allow a more fair rotation of the hot files , so far I always seem the same when I select hot file or just the newsest more endorsed ... there are even files that are hot couse are newer than some of mines but with less than the half of the nedorsements ...

And just what criteria do you recommend for showcasing mods that are not either New or Hot?

I do expect we will see some changes here, But no matter what we cannot just have all mods showcased - there are just too many.

I am in favor of an updated mods showcase. However, we will need to change the criteria for updated - if an author can game the system by making a change in his description, or by changing something that isn't actually a change in the mod, but in the documentation that should be excluded from the updates showcase.

Currently in Skyrim alone we are seeing 30 to 50 new mods a day and from 50 to 100 updated mods - How can you showcase even one days production of non hot mods without having someone go through and hand pick mods? - Now, Who gets this job? By using the downloads and/or endorsements we can show 5 of each. Hot, latest, latest images and then add latest updates or updates of popular mods. And by necessity these are the most popular. Any more than that and the entire page is nothing but pics of mods - a wall of pics to boggle your senses.

Let me hit you with a big wet slap of reality - This next part was originally posted in the Authors forum where some are asking the same questions.

Posted 02 January 2012 - 10:10 AM Whatever system you come up with - editor's picks, random or anything else - will never showcase 99% of the mods as there are just too many of them. If - say we have 30,000 mods for one game, (round number picked for ease of calculations.) and we showcase 6 per day, (one more than we actually showcase) that means it could be 5000 days - That's possibly 14 years, before a particular mod shows up. If it ever shows up due to the fickle nature of random. And Oblivion already has nearly that many. Skyrim is on track for well over that number.

If we move it up to 12 mods a day that cuts it in half, 'only 2500 days - or nearly 7 years. Then, fully half the front page is taken up by random mods that 99.8% of the members could care less about.

As for a committee to pick good mods to showcase - That's what the endorsements are supposed to do. And YOU are the committee that picks them.

Tagging just helps when searching, not for showcasing.

Footnote: In this post, just like everywhere else, 93.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot 3.6% come from insufficient data. Leaving just 2.3% as actually valid for anything. And then there are always +/- 2 to 3% rounding errors.:teehee:

A simple one could be :

Recently updated files : a show up based on endorsing number and , and number of redownloads may be ....

((endorsements+(visualizations/downloads))/total number of downloads) * file size variation ( new file - old file )
