Dubnoman
I have decided that my Nord needs to delve into some Illusion magic to help when she is fighting a number of enemies at once (the only weapon she is very good at is bow and arrow, so fighting three or more enemies at once gets tough). First of all, would Illusion magic prove very useful for someone who uses archery as their only way of fighting? I read somewhere someone saying it helped them with calm, fear, and frenzy spells. Now, onto the thread's topic. Some perks I want to gain sooner than later (I'm level 19 now) are illusion spells working on higher level animals and illusion spells working on higher level people. What are considered higher level animals and people, though? So I'm at level 19 now. Do feral animals and people who are enemies (i.e. not townsfolk) have their levels scale to yours? I'd like to know so I know how soon to level up my Illusion skills (to cover both perks) and how soon I should allocate those perks. Are Dragons considered high level animals? Perraine
AFAIK all animals and NPC's scale to your character, so the obvious choices would be things like Trolls, Bears, Sabre Cats, "Leader' level bandits and 'Briar Heart" forsworn, any 'Master" practitioner of magic or necromancy and yes, of course, Dragons! Pretty obvious really ... Plus Leveling up ANY skill, even one not normally related to combat, will increase your character level

This can also be increased with the Illusion Dual Casting perk, which will effectively double (before any other perk bonus) the MAX level of your Fury / Frenzy spells. Illusion is somewhat of a MUST-HAVE if you are focusing on Archery as your primary combat skill... until (or IF) you get a high enough smithing / enchanting level to the point where you wont need it anymore as your bow shots will be doing 500+ base damage anyways. SaintAnon
I find both Illusion and Alteration to be very useful when playing a Archer; I use both skills frequently on my Khajiit Forest Ranger, Illusion for calm/frenzy/invisibility and Alteration for wards and armor rating improvements like "oakflesh". As far as perks it depends on your magicka, if you have a large enough amount to cast these spells 1-3 times per bar just focus on increasing the magnitudes of these spells with there related perks. If your magicka is lower it might be worth taking the "x level spells now cost half the magicka to cast" perks. Just don't get carried away, make sure you got the perks to spare before investing them.
