<shrug> pretty simple, notice how Joel doesn't have a belt and Daniel does (see the pics in my first post), and we are attempting to make a model similar to Joel? If you want to be pedantic that's your choice, but it's pretty straight forward....I wouldn't think it was a perplexing issue for anyone following the thread.

The shirt isn't tucked in, so if you retexture it greenish and make the pants a bit more like denim, paired with a backpack, I think it wouldn't look nearly that bad :)

Another alternative might be simply a tucked in shirt, since a lot of models (with shirts and pants) have a nice clean edge/seam at the lower body. I'm guessing there's a vanilla/stock outfit or a modders resource that has jeans that could be swapped out.
