Elder Scrolls Movie?

thats a pipe dream if there ever was one

A pipe dream is something ultimately desirable yet utterly unattainable. This subject is neither the former nor the latter. Any budding group of producers with half a billion dollars could invest (though not wisely) in a movie version of what is vastly becoming the most successful game series of all time.

but as of now tes has no real story or plot its just a ton of little ones

its like making my name is earl into a 3 hour epic movie

everything in oblivion is just a bunch of little side quests and the main quest simply isn't long enough

I'm not sure you really know what your saying. You seem to be confusing the world of The Elder Scrolls with the Game of Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls games are based on an already established lore. Each game release is but a small portion of a very large and quite dramatic history of a world known as Nirn. The largest continent (the only one actually) being Tamriel and so far the main setting of all the games. All the books that you can read in all the games give you a glimpse into this history and are all collective to the overall plot of this world's existence.

So to say that there is not enough story in the lore is to say that you do not know the lore.

but i do suppose you could make a my name is earl type tv series to the game i could actually picture that happening(although it might be a little wierd getting actors)

That thought is ten times more horrifying than that of a poorly done Hollywood adaptation.

Off topic:

The only reason the SW Ep IV, V, and VI were any kind of decent is because Lucas didn't have any "next gen" special effects toys to play with. He was also under alot of pressure from the studio to make episode IV good, as they were overbudget and past deadlines. He actually had to have a story and a plot.

The same goes for the Indiana Jones movies. If Lucas had access to the technology that he does now, like SW Ep I, II and III, acting would be the filler between his special effects shots. Those movies (Episodes I, II and III) I feel, show what kind of director Lucas really is.

I also find it funny that the only actor who actually made a career from the Star Wars movies was Harrison Ford. I think that says loads about him as an actor.

On Topic:

Tim Burton wouldn't exactly be my first choice of directors. His directing style is too weird to make a movie based on the world of TES. Maybe Peter Jackson, as he seems to have been the most successful at making a movie from a story told in a different media. I am however of the same opinion, an Elder Scrolls movie would be an absolute disaster no matter who directed it, or who acted in it.

yeah worm your right

well maybe you could make a movie because the lore is all just part of the setting for a story to take place

@SGTBOB Yes, exactly right. So the movie will probably be made and it will probably be bad and we will all have something to talk and laugh about later.

@Thanodai FYI, all six books were written a number of years before the first movie. Your points are still valid in that they apply to the adaptation to screenplay from the books rather than the writing of the story itself. If you had read all of the books you might not feel as good about the first 3 movies as you do. Lucas is first and for most a science fiction writer and I do not feel that any of the movies did justice to the books. Which is sad considering Lucas wrote the books he adapted from.

As a matter of fact the only book to screenplay adaptation I have ever thought did the book justice is The Hunt for Red October. I had hoped that Lucas wouldn't go there with I-III, but he did and so will others. I expect this to be done and while I hope for the best I'll prepare for the worst. If they do this it's not going to kill me.

OFF TOPIC

What would kill me is if they take my beloved Dark Tower series and make it into a hokey made for TV Mini Series, but given the track record of Stephen King's novels I would say that is also likely to happen. I will die a happy man if I live the rest of my life without seeing that happen.

a movie's possible based on the game series' success. The Ob MQ is enough to fill 90min, even cutting stuff out. In a cinematic setting, I think the gates would seem a little corny though.

Also, TG quest could make a nice film. And I really want to see that guy saying on the big screen: "You're bothering me. Really, really bothering me!"

hey if they can make a movie about DOOM, Resident Evil, and an upcoming one of Halo, than why NOT one of Oblivion?... the simple reason is that the stories great, but the idea is simply too difficult to reproduce, not only that but the game basically plays LIKE a movie, so it doesnt need a movie to back it up. Its kinda like making a movie for the Indigo Prophecies video game, even though it was produced to be exactly LIKE a movie...u dig?

EDIT: like spending millions of dollars for a rerun....

Lets say someone did make a movie out of Oblivion, not the bethesda lore but oblivion. What scene from the game or one mentioned in the game would you love to see on the silver screen, assuming it's got high quality FX? My vote would be the daedric siege on Kvatch, Watching Mannimarco sucking the souls out of the bruma mages guild, or the battle at the Great Gate.

I think it would be really difficult to make a movie out of any RPG, especially for those that let you decide the ending of the game. The movie people would have to decide cannonical and non-cannonical point to the storyline. Then some fans would get upset because "That's not supposed to happen," blah, blah, blah. In fact, the only movie that I know of that was based on a video game is Lara Croft Tomb Raider...
