Aegrus
I've lately been trying to set companions to be essential. They are vanilla companions, so I didn't think there'd be an issue. I've used the setessential console command, and multiple variations of it. But no matter what I do, it doesn't work. It's ridiculous. I hear people on forums talking about it in passing like it's the easiest thing in the world, but I can't use it. I have no idea why. (Yes, I have a pc, and other console commands such as resurrect work, just not setessential.) Can anyone help?

BlackRampage
This might be simpler then it seems. Exactly what do you type into the console? Just typing "setessential" won't work. And selecting the NPC and then typing it won't work either. The correct way to do it is like this: setessential [NPC's base-id here] 1 So, let's say one wants to make Charon essential. Then one types the following into the console: setessential 156f6 1As can be expected, the way to make him unessential again is: setessential 156f6 0 Now, how to get a character's base-id? The easiest way is by starting the game through FOSE. Then all you need to do is open the console, select the NPC, then type "GBO" into the console. The other way is to find the character's base-id over here: The Vault
Aegrus
Yes to the above, I have various mods, and I know to enter the base ID and 1. It's solved now, though. I just used the G.E.C.K to modify the npcs I wanted as followers.
