Kimberlee
Windows replaces bad sectors in file 95965 of name \PROGRA~3\micros~1\windows\WER\REPORT~2\RE6071~1\WERCF9~1.HDM and I was wondering, could this ALONE be the reason that Fallout 3 is not working correctly? I got this message after doing a CHK DSK scan of my HDD - and it took FOREVER! I recently adjusted some settings in my fallout.ini file as well as fallout_default files and then changed them back to the original settings and loaded games from BEFORE those changes. Now the game is not stable at all and crashing a lot. Mostly when I transition from one cell to the next. Will I have to reinstall Fallout 3? I would sure hate to do this as I am VERY far along and dread the thought of having to start all over again...
dragonalumni
HI. Help has arrived! Haha-- ok it's not as bad as you think. First of all you are not going to have to start over. So take a deep breath. First thing know is your save files can be copied, backuped even if you reinstall your game. It does sound like you made some change to your ini files that is causing crashes and if you had some windows problem, maybe your files are now corrupt. It's not a big deal. Copy you save files.Uninstall Fallout 3.Reinstall Fallout 3.Move the save files back. Play on. I'm not sure if uninstalling fallout removes save files or mod files so I recommend you copy them to another location. Next time you change a file (~~.ini) make a backup first. Also it's possible deleting your .ini files will solve the problem. You should try it first and start up the game.
BlackRampage
Well, actually all you need to do is simply delete the .ini and start the game. It automatically creates a new one. By the way: Why bother making changes to your .ini if there's a mod that has done it for you: FALLOUT INI EXTENDED And remember to make backups next time

I will be doing a quick re-install after backing up the save games I want to have it run the optimal settings for a GTX 260 so I was following the tweaks guide for Fallout 3. I wanted more of the landscape to load as I travelled the wastes so I did adjustments to uGridsToLoad and uExteriors. I wish there was a better guide to follow actually, seeing as how it ended up damaging more things than fixing them. But thanks for the replies. I appreciate the help.
