Additional VRAM

Currently have an Nvidia 970 with 4 GBs of VRAM (Yes, I'm aware of the 3.5 GB + 500 MB issue), and get quite a bit of crashes. I've done monitoring with GPU-Z, and the crashes happen when I reach 4 GBs of VRAM usage, which honestly sometimes happens as soon as I load a saved game. Would an Nvidia 1070 with it's increased VRAM (8 GBs vs 4 GBs) alleviate this issue? I've been reading something about a 4 GB VRAM cap/limit?

Also, is there maybe anything conflicting in my mods that could be eating up up VRAM that I could uninstall?

Do you use any Hires texture replacers? If so, what size are they in? 2x? 4x? You also might want to clean your .esms.

I do use them, and usually go for the highest available (Sometimes even 8k). However, I'm running at 1080p. Is there any advantage to running higher? If not, with a 1080p resolution, what's the highest I should be using?

As far as cleaning the .esms, those are the actual files from Bethesda (Update, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn). How would I go about cleaning them? What does cleaning do?

Run LOOT and it will tell you what files need cleaned. It will also give you a link to download SSE Edit/FO4 Edit (same program) and instructions on its use.

Remember to only clean one esm at a time.

You only need to clean the masters if you are going to mod, otherwise it is not needed. If you do mod and don't clean it will cause problems (including baldness from ripping out your hair) like CTD's.

After going through each master, close then re-run LOOT and it will tell you if you got them all or not. I find that I have to clean Dawnguard twice.

Attempting to clean, but I'm getting error messages (I've attached them). I haven't moved ANY files or anything like that

Where did you put SSE5Edit? I have the same version in My Documents folder and it works.

As for 4 and 8K mods and a 1080P monitor that is pretty pointless and as you can see chew up all your VRAM settle for 2K mods. They are good enough.

Then, I suggest you uninstall SSE5Edit and reinstall it again.

Btw. it could be a good thing to use CCleaner's registry cleaner after you have uninstalled. Every Windows version since W 98 have more or less made a mess of the registry after just a couple of days. And sometimes Windows "forget" to remove all the registry files after an uninstallation.

CCleaner is perfectly harmless to use as long as you don't alter it yourself.

I said screw it, completely uninstalled ALL my mods and Skyrim and reinstalled Skyrim. Still getting the same error with SSEdit. Where exactly is the unzipped folder supposed to be placed? I've tried it multiple places and continue to get the same error. If that's not the issue, then I don't know what I'm doing wrong
