How do you save any changes made in GECK?

I'm trying to fix a WMX bug where I can't mod one particular gun. I go into the Mod Info tab on the weapon, and then I exit, it always asks me if I want to "Save changes to plugin file". Whatever the hell that means. I always assumed this was normal. I simply made a new .esp and gave it a name... Idk what good it does.

 

How do you save changes? I just want to enable weapon mods on A Light Shining in Darkness. It won't accept any. WMX has been in use for months and it's worked flawlessly. Well, except for this one time when I had to simply reload my save.

 

How yeah. I really don't know how to save changes in GECK. I'm not creating any mods, just want to know how to finalize my changes.

when you open it, do you click on the mod you named and save and set it as active? if not every time you open the GECK, it will save any changes you make as a new .ESP.

There is no saving at that point ... just setting it as active. Then everything loads.

Active meaning the file that you will then save any changes to.

If you save before loading you will make an empty .esp

poor wording on my part, I meant are you making the previous saved esp as active.

Well... to be perfectly honest, guys. I think someone will have to walk me through exactly what to do because none of it makes sense.

 

All i want to do is make it so Joshua Graham's gun can be modded. I have WMX installed. It refuses to allow me to mod ALSID. So someone told me to edit the weapon's Mod Info in GECK. How exactly would i do that? And what's best practice for doing such things?

What's ALSID ? And I guess furthermore what is WMX ? you're talking about it like it's a tool , not a mod file ?

Yes, that's Weapon Mods Expanded. I have that installed, and it works just fine. Except that the aforementioned weapon is not able to be modded for some reason. And someone had suggested I use the GECK to change it so it can accept weapon mods.

I just downloaded all of that data, take me a bit to see the materials and find a solution for you.

your most likely trying to use the wrong tool for the job, in this case the GECK ?

 

The geck produces changes into esp plugins only not actual materials. If you need to just edit the parts of that one item, I can do that. / show you how.

Ok, I made a preliminary plugin to assess the required assets, you do not need WMX to provide you with what you want, it's a default Gun in HH DLC.

 

Whats going on here is you have installed mods that target a default weapon so associated mods will get drawn into the mix, that my friend locks out the file on you.

I'll make some more adjustments here and gather all the default required information to pack into this plugin for you so you "can" edit that weapon.
