False "save corruption" during gameplay

Okay, so let's recap some information:

  • Mod Manger software doesn't make a difference.
  • Using ENB or ReShade doesn't make a difference.
  • Shadowman's dlls (like achievement unlocker and skill uncapper) doesn't seem to affect the issue.
  • There doesn't appear to be a set of mods that cause this issue. Everyone has varied mod configurations.
  • It may show up on XBox One. Wouldn't surprise me since PC versions tend to be ported from XBox One versions.
  • Possibly keeping your mod list short doesn't affect this. XBox One I think limits you to 150 plugins.

Does everyone make a bashed patch? How about a SSEEdit merge patch?

Ah. The last time I looked it was still at the "go here, download this, edit that, download this other thing, go there and download something else and if it still doesn't work call us in the morning" stage. I'm fairly entrenched in NMM now, which is not ideal but better than it used to be on Oldrim.

I do both, religiously, every time I add or remove a mod. I learned a step by step procedure on Oldrim and just do that.

The only thing I've found that makes a difference (but doesn't get rid of the thing completely) is hacking SkyUI 2.2 so that it doesn't change the menus for containers. There's a procedure for that somewhere. That made it far less frequent for me. But people have had the Bug who don't use SkyUI 2.2 at all, so that isn't what's causing it. It *has* to be the game engine.

Well, I've been testing for a couple of days now, and I have seen no further evidence of the bug. *Knock on wood*. The ONLY change I made from when it was happening every few minutes was to remove Sky UI 2.2.

I use NMM, I use a bashed patch after change and currently I have 255 active plug ins with 40 more merged into the bash and ghosted. 450 active mods total in NMM I don't know why this change worked for me but it did.

I was using Sky UI 2.2 just fine until I installed the dll loader by Shadowman. That's when I started having the problems. I did not uninstall that mod however as I wanted to continue using the plug in. I decided I can live without Sky UI 2.2 if everything remains playable. So it still seems like a combination of the dll loader and Sky UI to me, but that's still hypothetical.

Certainly seems engine related as obviously neither of those even includes a plug in.

Removing the dll injector file DINPUT8.dll in the skyrim root directory seems to have eliminated this "error" for me. My save games are now properly saving with the (M) tag whereas using the injector, they were not tagged modified, which may have resulted in the "false" corruption in the save file header listings. So far...40+ hours...no issue. Try it out. Your mileage may vary or differ. Achievements are overrated anyways...if this is the issue.

Regards.

My 10 cents says it's resources. I run only 60 mods, using skyui 2.2 hacked, never seen the issue come up. Resources are freed when you reload which may explain why it,temporarily fixes it. Skyrim cannot allocate memory blocks that are not contiguous, which means that minimizing or removing the number of processes running in windows should, help. This means turn off anti virus, monitoring software, iTunes and apple, software etc.

Returning to the summary of swiftfoxmark2: it's quite a long topic to read, but:

1) We know that it's not an issue with SkyUI. I'm not using it, have a completely new installation of Skyrim, and I'm getting the bug. So, SkyUI simply cannot cause it.
2) We know that it's not an issue with Shadowman's DLL Loader. Number of people here never used DLL Loader. I've tried removing it and still got the corrupted bug with game that was marked as modded.

3) We know that it's not a specific mod, as it happens with completely different mod list's without a single mod in common.
4) We know that it's not connected to mod manager directly as it happens with different mod managers and affects incredibly small percentage of users.
5) We know that it's not a result of ENB or ReShade as it happens with people who never used either. Me, for example =)
6) We know that it's not a result of a Bashed Patch or Merged Patch as it happened with people that didn't use one or both.

7) We know that the bug affects only a small group of users - no one from the SOT team wasn't able to reproduce it (but our thanks for trying, really).

Now, some interesting parts:
- Keeping your mod list short helps. Longer mod lists have bigger chance to get a bug.
- Adding SkyUI increases your chances to get a bug.
- Enabling general subtitles increases chances of getting a bug.
- Adding ENB increases chances of getting a bug.

What we don't really know:
- Is the issue still actual on Xbox One? Was it ever? Do we have a single forum topic or bug report to actually link here?
- Is the issue connected to a category of mods? Say, mods that were dependent on SKSE or mods with incorrectly converted meshes? We know that some monster models that worked in Oldrim now make the game crush. How can we know that some of them don't overload the engine and "corrupt" the saves?
- Is the issue actually connected to the game update? Or does our mod lists simply reached the critical point at that time?
- Is it about resources? I used to get the bug immediately while generating my character and entering the world with Alternate Start. And it happened with short mod list. But now I struggled for 30 hours with overload of mods to get it to show. Skyrim got an update that improved it's resource usage?
- Why it only affects the interface? Dialogue lines disappear, books become blank, saves - unreadable? But you can still play an hour or to after this point - travel. fight. loot. If it's about resources, shouldn't we get more massive glitches and a crash?
- How come that bug become much more visible after it happens once? You can wait 30 hours for a first sight, but than it can happen every damn 20 minutes.

...Is it about sums it up? =)

I would add to list that no one on the sot team has ever seen the bug. Examing what our group has in common may help. One possibility is that we are ssedit nuts. We easily spend 15 hours manually editing our ssedit merged patch. We also optimize he heck out of our pcs and game.

Yeah, I edited the post to add it. Not sure it's about manual edits though - I'm also editing my Bashed Patch mostly by hand, checking all new mods in SSEdit. Too bad I have no scripting knowledge to see real script conflicts.

Now, I've completely overmoddded my playthrough trying to dig the bug out, so I'm getting more crashes that I'm comfortable with. Well, it was sorta the goal, so now I'm taking a break from Skyrim for a couple of month. I'll rebuild it from the ground up when I'll return.

I've tried a new game and can confirm that with mod overload bug appears much sooner. It can be connected to lower game stability in general. It still doesn't plague my game the way it used to.
