Xeneonic
This was the DUMBEST thing posted in this thread. "SKSE64 dev team - any thoughts about handing the project over to people who have time for it?" Be glad they updated us. Some people are never satisfied. :huh:I didn't say I was ungrateful, I just asked if they had ever considered it. I think there are enough people in this community with the talent and motivation to help the SKSE64 team. If someone can help lighten their burden while they deal with real life stuff what makes that dumb? It's a win win for both sides. There are very, very few people with the specialized skills and tools needed to work on this type of project. Anyone who has those skills and tools along with the time and motivation to work on the project can easily contact members of the team. The most likely to be able to help in any meaningful way would be the handful of people who have written SKSE plugins. The rest of us just need to wait patiently. Hi there, I work in the Information Security field and have an advanced knowledge of reverse engineering x64-based Windows binaries, as well as object-oriented programming (C++ included). I have reached out to a member of the team multiple times (behippo) on this forum offering assistance, and have gotten no response. I would be very interested in helping take over this project if the original creators are no longer willing or able to contribute. Simply waiting for an indefinite period of time does NOT have to be the only option. I'll wait. The time from now until SKSE team advances the project to the next step (whether that be release, beta, or encouraging update) will be FAR shorter than for someone to come in, get up to speed and take over the project in any meaningful way. Period. This is not necessarily true, and seems to be the case so far in this situation. Seeing as "no work for several months" cannot be "In my opinion it will still be faster" as 0 progress is still 0 progress. I'd like to point out that I'm just specifying to this quote and it's not used as criticism or intended "snarly" remarks towards any of the SKSE team. They got RL s#*! to do and no one can blame any of them for that. Merely stating that "my opinion is that standing still gets you to your destination faster than a slowly accelerating car" can hardly be called an opinion. exploiteddna
le sigh.. i forgot all about SSE for the past 5 months.. intentionally... so i wouldn't drive myself crazy.. thought I would come check on the progress, but now I'm sorry I did. We'll just have to be more patient. Hopefully they find the time/motivation to complete the project..
1Crimson1
Would a GoFundMe help things out?
Tom1382
Would a GoFundMe help things out?Funding does not buy time. I understand many things are rewritten and so that will work. There is a lot of testing to be done. What kind of tests? Testing the existing mods for SLE?I think if 50 mods work well, 95% will work well. Can Bethesda do something in this? We pay for their product but we can hardly play!I think if Skyui5, SMIM and Maps work we not mind to much to wait longer. For now I am forced to go back to SLE. BombBloke
This is not necessarily true, and seems to be the case so far in this situation. Seeing as "no work for several months" cannot be "In my opinion it will still be faster" as 0 progress is still 0 progress. At least part of the issue is that introducing a new developer typically also involves work. It's a bit of a gamble. You could spend weeks explaining how given bits of code function, only to find that the new member then disappears and contributes nothing (regardless of their abilities and intentions - life happens!). It's a bit of a gamble, and when you consider that most people have a life to live, it's a bit of an unfavourable one. Truth be told, if you're good enough to take over this sort of development, then you really don't need the current team to induct you. Yeah it would save a lot of time on your part, but if you're able to figure out how the Skyrim x64 binary works in order to extend its scripting capabilities, then you're also capable of reverse engineering SKSE x32 in order to see what needs to be extended. Would a GoFundMe help things out? No. We're talking about experts who already have full-time jobs and responsibilities, signed up under contracts which would actually make life more difficult for them if they received funds related to this. Even if those agreements didn't put a damper on such things, pumping money towards them won't dissolve the social impacts of neglecting their other duties. valentjedi
So am I correct that license in src/skse folder disallowed me to just fork this source code and start hacking in new x64 executable?
BombBloke
lol That'd depend heavily on whether you're a member of the Skyrim Online team.
valentjedi
Just checked - no, I'm not :)
yamashi
So am I correct that license in src/skse folder disallowed me to just fork this source code and start hacking in new x64 executable? In fact they will contact you to tell you to shutdown your repo if you fork the code, SKSE is by no means opensource.
valentjedi
I'm so into opensource philosophy that it hurts me straight into my hearth that you can't use source code which is shipped right in to your hand. I'm not ranting though, I really appreciate work guys done and will do.
