Rukus723
I'd like a mod that makes you sink to the bottom of lakes/rivers/ponds/the ocean if you are wearing heavy armor or have Heavy Armor in your inventory. The mod should also take care to make it so that high value heavy loot doesn't spawn in underwater containers. Heavy Armor wearers would have to either carry waterbreathing potions or not wear heavy armor if they feel like swimming. OR While swimming wearing heavy armor and/or having it in your inventory rapidly drains your stamina, and when your stamina runs out you sink to the bottom. jimhsu
You wouldn't sink. Probably not. But mobility would be significantly impaired. Buoyancy helps a lot in this case, up to the point where you can actually jump from a fixed point 12 feet deep and break the surface of the water. There, you learned something today. muttiniraq
crazy things people do in plate armor. Sad fact is that you sink even in light armor. Heck, swimming in boots was quite the experience in the Marines. If you want to make it really interesting, maybe leather based would be possible to swim. I realize both of these things, but as you can see in your own video, swimming for any distance is difficult, and swimming upwards is near impossible. How about this as an alternative? While swimming wearing heavy armor and/or having it in your inventory rapidly drains your stamina, and when your stamina runs out you sink to the bottom. jimhsu
How about simply making it a function of encumbrance? Doesn't matter where you put the heavy armor - if it has mass, it's going to be a drag no matter where it is. Also makes sense that people who have training (i.e. the weightless perks for heavy armor) can move more proficiently in it. Aerrow
I'm liking this idea, water has next to no risk and there's usually no reason to try to go around it or anything. It almost seems like you have to try to drown yourself. I have a better idea on how you could work it though. Instead of just going off of you wearing or even having heavy armor, you could go by carried weight. Swimming across a river carrying two hundred pounds of potions, weapons, and clutter sounds like it would be extremely tiring and dangerous. So why don't you take your carried weight divided by your maximum, multiplied by 100, then subtract 10 or so and round it down to the nearest whole. That number would be how much energy you lose per second while swimming. If you run out of energy then you sink to the bottom where you'll most likely drown. This would add another purpose to those strength potions that let you carry more weight. You might not have enough stuff to be over encumbered, but drinking one will give you a better chance to make it to the other side. So for example, lets say you're carrying 180 pounds, your max is 300 and the amount of energy you have is 150. (((180/300)*100)-10) is 50. That means every second you swim you lose 50 energy, so you would have 3 seconds to swim before your energy depletes and you begin sinking. If you drink a potion that increases your max weight to 330, (((180/330)*100)-10) is 44.54 rounded to 44 is how much energy you lose per second, giving you 3.5 seconds to cross. These numbers may seem a bit high, but swimming while carrying that much would realistically be pretty hard to do for long. Maybe you could slightly adjust the formula to (((weight/max)*90)-10) or (((weight/max)*100)-20)? Maybe the resulting number would be how much energy you lose every two seconds? This obviously requires tweaking, but I feel I'm on the right track.

Making it based on carry weight would quickly become annoying, especially from your example because there would be little to nothing you could do about it. Making it based on stamina and a single type of items makes it more simplistic.
Reynner
Cool idea, too bad 5 years later no one even tried to do it.
