Lachdonin
First, as people have pointed out, Hardcore Mode was NOT Bethesda. It was Obsidian. Second, it does NOT make sense that Hardcore Mode should be in Skyrim. It's a generally unpleasent, rather hash land, yes, but it is not some post apocalyptic wasteland made worse by a real apocalypse (Yes, i'm saying nevada is a wasteland, want to fight about it?). There is an abundance of food and water, no radiation to deal with, and regular communities in which to provision yourself. To implement a proper hardcore mode to Skyrim, they'd have to dramatically overhaul the system. Water wouldn't be a problem is most of the province because where there isn't rivers, theres snow. On the other hand, you would have to deal with hypothermia, which would have to take into account different climate zones, different weather effects, impact from Cold spells. We already know Bethesda's multi-varriable programming is somewhat lacking, and when they try to implement such things we get glitches, Bethesda's good (in fact their great) at giving us a basic platform to work on, and the tools to make it better. Things like the Companion Wheel, better conversations and actual choice, things given to us by Obsidian, are representitive of what can be done with those tools. Expecting Bethesda to do the same is like asking the chicken to cook the egg for you. Do you want the full experience, or the tools to make the experience better? You don't get both. *** although, technicly right now we don't have either... Edited January 30, 2012 by Lachdonin

So perhaps "hardcore" is not an appropriate description , I hadn't much thought of it until reading your replay. A hunger/thirst mod I believe is what most people want. This would not require dramatic overhaul of the game. Maybe Bethesda doesn't believe enough people are interested in this feature to justify including it in the game. But I do see it mentioned a lot ! After all they included cooking. Leaving me with the question of "why?". Obviously they believed a lot of people wanted to cook in the game. They dont seem to think we want it to serve any purpose whatsoever, lol
thesapien
Yeah, I'm glad you stopped calling it "hardcore" because it really gave me the wrong impression at first until reading the posts, then I was like, oh, but that's not hardcore, that's just wanting to RP more. I would also like to see sleeping and consuming implemented for us who want to RP, though I agree it wouldn't make the game any harder. I don't think it stands out though any worse than running in heavy armor or doing battle while carrying a butt load of weapons and equipment. I disagree with those who don't like the cooking that is provided because even though it is not necessary, I think it would be worse to not have it at all. Plus, if you learn to cook special foods, there is a big bonus to that for either your own consumption or selling. There are also some very special dishes to be discovered, not all entirely legal or cheap to make. Edited February 4, 2012 by thesapien
