[LE] Archive.exe Restrict? Options....

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to repack some mods that I've merged and have read that compression of sound files will cause ctd, or the voice files will not play in game. When I open the archive.exe there is a box right under root dir: that says Restrict. It would seem that this is a box to input options for archive.exe. I have googled all over the place and haven't found any info about what kind of commands can be entered here. More specifically. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to include voice files into the BSA but exclude compressing while compressing the rest. There must be something that box is used for.

If I can't do that. I was going to leave the voice files as loose and compress the rest, would the mod still work as intended with loose files and a compressed BSA?

Well I know I can do that, but I've read that when the voice files are compressed, and sometimes sequence files, the sequences won't start and the voice files will cause ctd. Unless those issues have been fixed in the latest update with CK kit. I was reading info a few years old.

Oh never mid, you're saying I can have both. I think that's what I will do. Kind of makes me wonder how bethesda packed the dlcs into compressed format and the sound and voices still work. That's what leads me to believe there is a way to enter custom commands in the archive.exe. I just wish I could find out how. There's nothing in the CK tutorials that mention it. If I could learn that then bsas would be a breeze.

Most of Bethesda's BSA files are uncompressed. Only textures, meshes and animations were compressed for the base game. DLC BSAs which contained multiple file types were uncompressed. So it will probably be perfectly fine to have an uncompressed BSA.

Tho depending upon the final size of the BSA, you might need to have multiple BSAs with dummy plugins or have some of them loose. There is an upper limit to what a BSA can hold and be read by the game. Not sure of the exact number but I wouldn't go over the file size of the largest BSA provided by Bethesda.
