Game won't load outdoor save files

I am having strange problems. My game will not load a save game, that is saved outdoors. I can load a save game that is saved in a building or in a cave. When I try to load a save game outdoors, the intro screen plays and goes through the data files that normally display. I thought it might just be taking a long time, so I started an outdoor save and let it go for 3 hours. When I got back, still not loaded.

I had a ton of mods loaded to include some of the increased texture mods for things like landscapes, clothing, etc. I uninstalled all mods and it did not help. I even renamed my texture and mesh directories to make sure nothing special was getting loaded. That didn't work either. Next I deleted my Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPref.ini files and let the game recreate them. When I did that, the system automatically crashed to desktop as soon as any save file started to load.

I had about 850 save games in my save directory. I moved about 800 of them to see if that helped. Nope.

The next thing I did was to uninstall my game, and reinstalled the entire thing. As you can guess, that didn't help either. Still have the same problems with loading outdoor save files. I loaded a save game from indoors and continued playing, but after a while I crash to desktop. It has only happened once, but I am up to my neck in frustration.

I suppose that my save files could be corrupted. The only thing I have not tried is starting a new game.

Any ideas as to why this is happening would be helpful. I have pretty much been playing this game since launch. I've already finished the game once. Was playing this go around with doing side quests before I started either of the main quests. In the 2nd go around, I was already Jarl in at least 5 holds... It would suck to have to start again, but I would do it if I could play the game.

When I first started the game, I could not even finish reading one of the data files on the load screen before the game loaded. After loading all the mods, I would see 2-3 data files. I suppose it was gradually getting worse. I wasn't concerned at the time.

possible, that you have changed something in your Skyrim.ini / Skyrimpfrefs.ini that has to do with one of the following lines?

iAllocatedMemoryBytes=4294967296

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=4294967296

iMaxMemoryPageSize=1048576

iMinMemoryPageSize=262144

iPreloadSizeLimit=268435456

uGridsToLoad=7

uExterior Cell Buffer=64

uInterior Cell Buffer=32

fMasterFilePreLoadMB=256.0000

fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0

???

Changing any of these or push them too high will cause the game to load forever^^ I had the same problem before...

It could be to do with the size of your game file as its a well known bug to cause problems after 200 + hours of gameplay.

Some people get it, some people dont depending on your computers stats. If your on a console, it also does this but im not sure on the timeframe.

Im currently reaching the 200 hours mark and my game has slowed slightly. Certain areas, whiterun for example can take up to 5 to 10mins to load but every other area is ok so far and they load in seconds.

But sometimes the game jumps from taking 5 seconds to load every area, to taking 5 mins on an exterior area

just a suggesstion, so how many hours have you played on that save file?

diamondialis - Thanks for the input. I changed my Skyrim.ini settings to match those that you sent. These changes made my game crash directly to desktop on load. So I figured it was one of these settings that was messing up my trying to reset my ini files. So I started with changing back the uGridstoLoad=7 setting that I changed to match yours. I changed it back to 9 and left all your settings as is. Well this stopped the immediate crash to desktop, but it did not fix the loading of the outdoor save file.

So this gave me another idea. Weirdly enough, my computer does not like the uGridstoLoad=7 setting. So I reset my ini files again and added the uGridstoLoad=9 line into the new ini file.

And low and behold, this fixed the problem. I can now load my outdoor save file and the game played through without any crashing to desktop for a good 30 minutes.

While your settings did not fix my problem, you set me on the right path, so Thank You very much.

same trouble=(

I have the same problem. When i try to go outside (as in skyrim) it loads for a bit then CTD every time. I have been getting round it by using player.moveto to jump around places till i can exit on to the map somewhere. Strangely it seems to like riverwood and hate solitude morthal and windhelm...

However the problem got to the point of game breaking. I clear out all the mods/saves/pref.files and did a clean install with just my indoors save and still couldnt get outside. Bizarre. Think its only been happening since the 1.5 patch. And only with lengthy saves (although not that lengthy 30-40hours?)

Anyone got a fix? :/ Im out of ideas. Guess it might be a memory leak or something? Its not the sound bug, everythings set to 24hz or whatever...

Also im running ATI 4800 series and an AMD 3.3 Phenom Quad Core.

I know this thread is old and dead but I had the same problem then I figured it out and thought anyone in the same pinch would appreciate the info. I had this map mod installed and it changed a couple of settings in the skyrim.ini file (not the prefs one) so I deleted it and launched via the Skyrim Launcher which then set my game settings back and saved them into my SkyrimPrefs.ini file. After that I was able to load saves outdoors again.
