Pauduan
Hello I've been playing all games with a keyboard and mouse, and recently have added a couch potato game machine. And after a few hours with a controller, am unable to work out how to aim properly. I like using enemies for archery practice (long-range sniping, aiming above the head). Unfortunately I am unable to aim precisely at or above the target, more than 90% of the time. There simply isn't the resolution available with the controller. Using M/K on the same screen works great, but then I've to sit as close as the wires will allow. This is a 49" screen, so sitting close isn't an option. For those who use a controller and are successful archers, please help me understand. The other thing I can't work out is how to move quickly in combat. I'm used to moving and attacking at the same time and using pretty much all my fingers. With the controller, I have only four free fingers to begin with, the rest of my hand is gripping the dam thing. Is there an easy and ergonomic way to do this, or am I doomed to not being able to play the game in 'serious' mode? Thanks for any and all help you can provide! soupdragon1234
I'm not sure whatto say except that I play the same games with a PS3 controller and I don't have any issues. Mouse is certainly more responsive but its not difficult I play as an archer mounted too and everythings fine for me. There are two anologue sticks one controls movement of the char and the other the movement of the camera and that includes target aim. What I would say is and this is going to sound patronising but its not intended to be, but practise makes perfect. Seriously when I first stated playing with a controller I was all over over the place couldn't figure out which button to press, how to aim, target, fire to say I was frustrated would be an undestatement. Probably took about a week before I started to feel confident that I was getting control over it. Now its second nature infact I don't have a clue how to use the keyboard I couldn't even tell you where the menu key is. Legendary play as an archer is no bother at all. Its all about the muscle memory I figure.
Pauduan
Thanks, that's helpful. What I was looking for actually was technique and hints, where to grip, how to increase resolution (of my aiming, not the gamepad). I know I will level up a bit myself over time, but needed a 'cheat sheet', if you will. I will also start looking for a M/K solution, though it's even less comfortable on a couch. After a few hours yesterday with a wireless M/K, I figured it's not much of a solution. Maybe have to stay with hack and slash till I'm a little better at the finer movements. I use a one of these: http://www.dragonwar.jp/support-detail.php?id=6&rid=18 but it gets installed as a Xbox360 controller. Would a better controller be of any help/use? Are there major differences between controllers (not in layout but in feel, control or any other usability benefits)?
plb9
You want a Steam Controller, it can be extremely accurate! This is accomplished by using the gyro for fine adjustments and keeping the right touch pad sensitive, so you can turn 180 with the swipe of your thumb. It take some getting used to, but now any fps feels extremely comfortable using it. This is Overwatch, but you can get the idea: Edited January 9, 2017 by plb9
envoy23
have been using 360 controller on all my pc games for years, check out archery mods and use them, 3 things I suggest, aim ahead to allow for travel time unless mod increased arrow speed, weird thing I have notice is, the further the distance the lower you aim (eg long shots aim for groin area), and move sideways after you shot, also use all you perks points to enable zoom and slow time. I use hd 65 inch tv, with usb extension cable for controller and have no aiming issues. maybe calibrate controller if its not sensitive to movements.
