bananakillerBRO
So, I want to make a robot appear rusty, I have the .dds picture, and a nice picture of rust, how do I smack this rust texture into the robot's texture?
JoKelly
here's a couple of links that might help you. http://gomedia.com/zine/tutorials/tutorial-using-metal-and-rust-textures-to-destroy-a-design/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOTVt-y_2Ws hope those at least give you a few good ideas
madmongo
I generally use Paint.Net for stuff like this (which is not the MS Paint that comes with Windows, but it is a free download). Paint.Net and GIMP can both handle dds files, so it's more a matter of personal preference as to which one to use. Some folks like GIMP. I think GIMP is generally more powerful but also more difficult to use. Paint.Net to me just seems more intuitive. But, that's just my 2 cents. If you like GIMP, use GIMP. I've had good success by starting with the original texture, adding another layer, pasting the rust texture onto that second layer, and setting the layer properties to multiply. Then merge the layers and save. I haven't messed with layers in GIMP but you should be able to do the same thing with it. Things may not be called by the same name in GIMP though. But if you can figure out what GIMP calls layer multiplying then the same basic thing should work in either program. You also need to merge it down to one layer before saving.
