Fallout 4 item description

Hello everyone!

My mod is almost complete and it needs a final scratch. I've created a few custom items with additional effects, but I can't add any descriptions to them.
The only thread with the same problem has been started about a year ago and seems finished with nothing.

The "Description" field in FO4Edit and CK is obviously for internal use only, it's not shown in the game.

I've also tried to create a new "magic effect" wich contains item description and attach it to the enchantment that is used by my item, but no results.

If anyone knows how to add an item description, I would be very thankful for advice.

Do you mean how legionaries like the Nuka-Girl Rocketsuit says "Grants ability to breathe underwater and +1 Charisma" when viewed in the Pip-Boy?

if so, (I think) you need to create a new "Object Mod" for your object that you want to show a description of.

The "Object mod" will hold the description and must be attached to your Weapon/Armor via keyword. When Creating your New "Object Mod" you will need to create a new custom "Target Object Mod Association Keyword" which is what you'll add in the keyword section of your Weapon/Armor.

I've looked at the Nuka-World stuff only because I had to try to remove the description for a Counterfeit Nuka-Girl Outfit in my mod, it was frustrating to get rid of it. Some of the "Object mods" are attached directly to the object like the "Acid Soaker" or, the "Nuka-Girl Rocketsuit" but others are attached to the "Object Template".

I haven't messed with this really so I could be wrong or there may be more to it but, This is what I have and hopefully a start.

The description field will display in game! It just depends on which one you use and for what item. We don't know what kinda of item you have made, something for a settlement? Or an armor? Weapon?

For settlement items like the Vault Tec's powerbike or in mods like Homemaker or NMW's Playing House you'll use the DESC field in the Constructible Object to convey various bits of information, like "Settlers stay fit and generate power at the same time." While in the build menu the description appears up top.

For armor or weapons you've got kinda an issue, once something is crafted unless it is legendary the DESC gets tossed outside of crafting stations. With armor you would use Armor's DESC field (not Constructible Object as it won't show up) the description then will show up in the chem station or armorsmith workbench or whatever on the right above the components. Then if your weapon/armor has attachments the info for each attachment is also held in the DESC field but it'll be within the Object Modification section. But this description won't carry over to the pipboy.

If it is a legendary item then Chucksteel is 100% correct, the info is in the DESC field of a special sort of Object Modification. As far as I can see the fact that it is an ap_legendary seems to be the reason it shows up in the pipboy!

Gentlemen, thanks for your attention. I must to give some clarifications: the items I've created are clothes wich add carry weight. They're not craftable, but can be purchased or found in the world.

But I'm quite confused with Object Modifications. As far as I can see it in FO4Edit and CK, there are Modifications named "Enchantment" and it has no description. But there are also Magic Effects that have one. For example: FortifyCarryWeight with description field "+<mag.> Carry Weight". That's what I actually need. But I can't apply the Magic Effect itself to my item, I can only choose among the enchantments.

So I've tried to create a custom enchantment that refers to the CarryWeight Magic with description. If I'm not mistaken, the description value depends on Magnitude of Enchantment.

Therefore I have folowing sequnce: customized CarryWeight Enchantment with magnitude 10 uses customized CarryWeight Magic Effect with description "+<mag.> Carry Weight", and this Enchantment is set up in Object Effect in my irem. But whenever I come to the vendor or look in the pip-boy I see no description.

Probably, I did something wrong but I can't understand where my mistake is.

Object mods and Enchantments are different things, you can find a section for "Object Mods" in the object window itself just like you can find a section for "Misc items".

Do you have Nuka-World? If so look up "Nuka-Girl" in the object window you will get a short list including the armor and it's "Object Mod". if I remember correctly the form type for object mods are "OMOD" in the list. (can't check now I'm not on my game rig)

You will see that the Nuka-Girl suit has an enchantment that gives it it's water breathing and other effect and an "object mod" that gives it it's description.

Also once you find the "Object mod" section in the list, you can select it and further filter with the word "Description" All the Nuka-World "Object Mods" that I've looked at end with "Description" in the form name.

hope that helps

Ок, thank you. Excuse me my ignorance, but i'd like to put all the dots above "i":

I need to take any Object Mod with Description and copy as new record into my esp, then I edit it as I wish and add it to the section marked red on the picture below (since it's the same object mod location in Nuka-Girl otfit).

Sorry again, but it's my first mod and I'm worry about it's quality.

I'm in no way an expert here I've only made a Bootleg Nuka-Girl suite and had to remove the description. I have no idea (mostly because I've never tried) how to edit this in xEdit but, if you look at how the vanilla Nuka-Girl suit gets it's description you'll see it's an "Target Object Mod Association Keyword" attached to the keyword section of the armor itself.

This keyword is created in the "Object Mod" and then attached to the armor.

Thank you very much! Finally it's done: there is a description both in pip-boy and trading menu. I've copied Nuka-Girl Object Mod to my item's Object Template field, and it works. Thanks again.

I'd like to ask you one more little offtopic question if you don't mind. I've added my item to some NPC in the world with chance of drop, but I doubt if I did it right.

I've added custom item to the "outfit" leveled list with in Creation Kit and adjusted "Chance None" value. Will it work? It's hard to test it right now due to lack of time, so I would be glad to hear your opinion.

Hello Patrizian, after watching a lot of tutorials I have the theory that only the mods marked as "Legendary" show their description on the pip-boy. Can you please confirm it by letting me know if the ObjectMod you copied has the "Legendary" box checked?
