OldBigfoot25
My character was walking down the road heading to zap a dragon to convince Delphine that she's really Dragonborn when she was attacked by an assassin carrying a note calling for her assassination by the Dark Brotherhood...it was signed "Astrid." My character is not a member of any factions at all and is very early in the game. I'm curious as to why someone would hire the DB to assassinate her...she is, so far, a "good" character who attacks anyone or anything only in self defense. Any ideas? JanusForbeare
Well, most quests involve stepping on some toes. There must be someone you`ve encountered who doesn't approve of your heroic antics.
Lachdonin
First, i would point out that Astrid is the leader of teh Skyrim Dark Brotherhood. That is why the signature is there, because no one does anything without her say so. Second, as Janus said, a lot of quests involve picking one one option over another. Enevitably this is going to piss people off. I myself have currently downed 2 Assassins on my current (and 3rd) playthrough. I hear when you kill the 3rd you get an offer to join the Brotherhood, and i plan on testing it out rather than killing that Orphan Matron. thesapien
It's the Dark Brotherhood so I don't see how being mostly good protects you???

Can anyone else confirm this because it would be a stellar way for me to get the destroy DB quest without going out of character and killing an old lady? Thanks. Cyrotek
That old lady derserved to die. Usually your player character gets assassinatet (or at least tried to :P) if you pissed someone of. Stealed something or maybe just throwed stuff around. Also it coud be, that the PC killed someone close to someone else. And this guy send them. Now for Delphine, i didnt knew it this questsystem woud work on NPC too (but its fun :D), maybe she pissed someone of on accident. OldBigfoot25
Thanks for all the responses folks! :) I'm not aware of anything "bad" that my character did to anybody, but maybe she did somehow. I'll be curious to see if she gets any more assassins trying to do her in. She's pretty good at defending herself! Thanks again. :) OBF
David Brasher
So far I have played three characters far enough to complete an entire questline each. All of them have been attacked by the Dark Brotherhood multiple times. My oldest character has like 100 hours of play and has been attacked by the Dark Brotherhood at least eight times. He collects Dark Brotherhood contract notes as a hobby. I think these attacks are pretty lame. I thought the Dark Brotherhood was supposed to be scary and good at what they do. These jokers attack me in broad daylight. They often attack when I have one or more companions with me so that the assassin is outnumbered. They always attack from in front of me so that I have plenty of time to see them coming. What ever happened to backstabs? They never used ranged attacks. I would think think a poisoned arrow from afar while not detected, could do some major damage. That is another thing. These fools don't use their poisons right. I often find unexpended poisons while looting their corpses. The poisons need to be used early on in an attack if you are attacking a fearsome foe that you are uncertain of being able to beat in a straight toe-to-toe fight.
