Game crashes on save after visiting Riften

So I'm starting my third character now for Skyrim and planning on focusing on the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood and playing a stealth character.

Of course, I go to Riften early on to start doing the Thieves Guild questline and get it under way.

Problem is, not long after I get it started, the game CTDs every time I try to exit the Ragged Falgon.

 

After several hours, I've kind of pinned it down to a save issue. Turning off auto save helps and I can use the "coc" console to get in and out of the thieves guild, but the main city of Riften is still inaccessible to me(CTD upon cell load). I can travel away from the Riften area but saving the game causes instant CTD.

The issue seems to start after I enter Riften for the first time and create a save file inside, then exit the game and continue later. For whatever reason after, the game can't save properly after that.

 

I'm using the Tytanis mod for this play through. Not sure how much how much that directly affects Riftens' cells though.

Other than that, I'm using SKSE, craftable arrows, Quality world map w/roads, TESV acceleration layer, Phate3's Dragonslayer and Hawk's Greatsword, No More Blocky Faces and the Hillside player home.

My first play though didn't have these have these issues with Riften so I'm a bit puzzled. I didn't spend much time with my first character in Riften (Was only there really to get Esbern for the MQ), but I didn't get get any crashes then or after.

Without an ability to save after escaping Riften, my character is stuck now. :sad:

 

Any ideas or suggestions?

Anybody else use Tytanis and play the Thieves Guild questline without a hitch?

 

I suppose I could revert to an earlier save and just do the Dark Brotherhood questline instead, but doesn't that involve me having to to go to Riften anyway to start it? :confused:

Update: Well I've tried starting the Thieves Guild quests and entering Riften for the first time without Tytanis active and I still get the CTD on save in or after I leave Riften. Guess I can rule that mod out now.

I've been trying to pin down exactly when this issue begins. It seems to happen right around when I initiate the intial Guild quest with Byrnjolf and officially joining the the guild. Something keeps happening that buggers up the game's saving function during that time. I can get around with autosave turned off, but I still can't manually save at all after visiting Riften. :wallbash:

 

I have noticed that the game is saving something during the crashes; an ess.tmp file that's only 320 kb. Not a proper .ess save file.

My save files are by are no means bloated at this point BTW, and were only averaging about 4000 kb before Riften.

 

I'm going to try the dark brotherhood quests as I've wasted my afternoon and evening trying to figure what the heck is wrong with Riften. When it comes to killing Grelod I'm just going to have to find a creative way to off her using the console so I don't have to set foot in Riften. Either coc directly to her and kill her or teleport her directly to me away from Riften and kill her(which might be the safer choice at this point). :unsure:

Just tried it back in Riften. Still CTD.

I ask this, becouse before upgrading everything in my rig, I only had ctd's or w7 crashes in the rift. I could go everywhere I wanted, exept the rift...

uninstalling and reinstalling Skyrim didn't help me... so I learned to live with it...

After upgrading my rig, keeping only the gpu I could only get 4-12 fps...

This I really couldn't live with...

 

After a lot of trying, tweaking, in and uninstalling, even came here looking for help with the fps problem,

the only thing that helped me was taking the cooler of of the card, cleaning all the coolingpaste of and applying just & little dot of paste.

There was an exes of paste, covering multiple resistors surrounding the gpu, linking them together...

As this was done in the factory, there will for sure be other cards with this defect, causing the stupidest things...

My gues is that the conductivity of the exes paste in my card was causing the ctd's and crashes and in my upgraded rig caused the massive fps loss...

 

If you have tried everything else, and your card is out of warranty, there is really no harm in trying, for at worst, it will lengthen the life of your gpu...

I for one, have since played ctd free and with a 55/60fps...

I have a MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II, and it's less than a month old.

 

I really do not think this is a hardware related issue. This is feeling more and more like a random game bug.

 

I went back and played with my first character that i did the Main Quest with and went to back to Riften. Did part of the Thieves Guild quests, messed about in Riften quite a bit, and saved all over. Exited the game, reloaded back in Riften and tried to do everything my stealth character did in Riften.

 

Absolutely no crashes with that character.

 

I don't know. Riften just doesn't like my stealth character. :confused:

I think it's entirely possible there's something bugged with the character. Although I haven't had any problems anywhere else in the game so far with him(I'm about half way through the Dark Brotherhood and Stormcloak quest lines now with him).
