love lord666 Posted January 12, 2012 Share Posted January 12, 2012 I've dedicated a whole year once on modding Fallout 3,like effortfully trying to make 100 mods work well together. My modded Fallout 3 and it's files after progress became my personal badge of effort to me. Sadly some stupid crap happened to my computer and i had to reinstall my OS and install a 3rd hard disk and that's where the OS was reinstalled. I unplugged the second drive where Fallout 3 was during the install. So after OS reinstall i plugged the hard disk back again and my computer didn't consider the game installed. Like the launcher opens up and only shows me the ''install'' option I understood it had to do with the registry entry being missing. But i just don't know what to do. I once actually already experienced modding the fallout 3 from scratch before and i had enough things going on in my life that nerve the hell out of me. For god sake i atleast want to rest playing my favourite game without wasting months of my lifespan solving everything. I could copy and paste the installed FO3 file into my new hard disk but still from what i understand the registry that states the games install is missing. Please ,please suggest a way to make the exact Fallout 3 file that i modded for a year active and playable again! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some people even have multiple copies - one for modding, one for playing. Anyway, you can always try: Installing FO3 on your new OS - I would recommend C:\Games\ Then just copy you old FO3 install over the new one. (Note: Copy not Move, you want to keep a copy - you know, just in case.) You get your registry entry back and all your mods are in the right place. I just had a look in my "C:\Games\Fallout 3\fomm\fomm" folder and there is a "load order backup.txt" file (created only moments ago as I type, presumably, automatically(?) by Fomm? - not sure.). Have a look around see if you have that file. You may be able to import it back into Fomm. I really and i mean really don't wish to be reinstalling all of them one by one. Let there be a hard method. But atleast give me the knowledge of it to progress and not waste time ripping my hair. Xepha537 Posted January 13, 2012 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Well, I very briefly investigated how you would go about finding the registry entries in an old OS install and importing them into a new one. And to be honest, it sounds more hassle than it's worth - the general consensus being it would far easier to just re-install the games, rather than risk wrecking another OS by corrupting the registry. What you could do however is, from your previous OS install, hunt down any game saves/config/settings files for those games that you might want, and then copy them over to their relevant folders in your new installs. Sorry, I don't think there's an easier way. The only suggestion I could offer, is to only install them as when you want to play them - rather than sitting there for days installing and configuring dozens of games. I did the same after my last OS re-install - turns out, I didn't want to play half those games any more. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
