[LE] Problem with creatong a dungeon

I'm new to modding and got my start by watching the tutorials on U-Tube but they only cover the basics.... Anyway I'm working on my first dungeon and I can't get the layout right. It's 3 levels, with the entrance leading into a high hallway in a large room then hallways and catacombs leading down to a lower level. What I'm trying to do is to put a quick way out in my mod like are in most dungeons and caves in the game. I put in a staircase from what will be the last room in the quest that leads to a hidden door near the way out...

I've gone over it several times and I'm sure I don't have any misaligned or over lapping segments but I always come out with a gap that is about half of hallway section. Is there a fudge factor for this or did I do something wrong somewhere. I have more hours into this than I care to admit....

BTW, this is for original Skyrim not SE.

No fudge factor in the CK ... if it's off, it's off ...

Are you always coming back to a clean save, as in a save that don't have your mod installed so

to the game it's the 1st time the mod is loading every time you check your work?

Can you show a pic ...

You don't say what type of dungeon you're using.

I'm only really familiar with Nordic dungeons but with these this can occur, so you haven't necessarily made a mistake.

If you're using a mixture of catacombs, 'standard' halls and secret passageways you can end up with a half hallway gap. In the catacombs section under SmHalls you'll see NorCatHallSm1wayExtension01. This is a piece of catacomb hall that's half the length of a normal small hall. It's used to account for the discrepancy between the catacomb halls and the normal ones so that doors and halls of the two types line up properly.

If this is your problem you should find a section of catacomb where adding one of these in will sort it.

I also once tried to create my own dungeon and i noticed pretty fast, that there will be gaps, always.

I had a small gap between some stairs in the corner (can't remember correctly but something like that) i fixed it by throwing some rocks and rubble over it. It also depends on the type of dungeon you want to create. If its a cave or ruin, its totally fine to use that method. A player won't notice that. They will think, its placed there for the look and not to hide holes.

If you go for a house mod, things can get pretty ugly, when you find gaps and how to fill them.

Even when you parts that dont match, you can make them match, juse use some rocks and rubble, that will do the trick.

Yes this is exactly the problem I'm having. I'm making a Nordic Dungeon with a bunch of catacombs and an anti chamber along the way. So I think I understand that I have to work it so that the half a hall way length gap is in the catacombs not in the small hall way so I can use this section?

My original plan was to have a shaft with a spiral staircase lead out to a side room off the first room in the dungeon but that's a bit more than I can figure out right now. So I've tried to make my first dungeon a little less ambitious.

BTW, I've been following along with the U-tube tutorial by BestInSlot. Also sorry about not proof reading the subject line. I'm a bit dyslexic an I don't always catch my spelling mistakes...

technojock,

this is exactly what I found. I had small halls a spiral staircase catacombs and halls. It's the catacomb section I'd look at. Without seeing the layout it's not easy to say if the catacomb is causing the problem or not but that piece that I posted NorCatSmHallextension01 is exactly half the length of a normal small hall, as I said.

Most tutorials that I've seen tell you how to do the easy stuff that all fits together without much trouble. If you play around with it you should be able to get it to join up.

The other possibility is that you've got one bit of hallway overlapping another one by half a hall length which isn't always easy to spot.

I'm not sure if people can send esp files by the private message system, or if you'd even want someone else to see your mod before it's finished but if you could do that I'd gladly take a look at it and see if I can find the problem.

I'm making my first tomb too...I also got ambitious. I've stuck at it and I'm pleased I did now. If you can sort it out, you'll end up with a much more interesting mod.

By the way, don't worry about the dyslexia. I hadn't given the title much thought. I'm not bad at doing typos myself!

I've gone over it so many times it's about made me crazy. I deleted the lower level and started all over again a couple times and I have more hours into this than I care to mention. I'm pretty sure there's no over laps anywhere, I was snowed in for a couple weeks and during that time I worked on it a lot.

Send me an eMail at [email protected] and I'll send it to you to look at.

You are 100% right about the tutorials only covering the easy stuff but they did get me stated modding and that's something I've been wanting to do for the past couple 3 years. I only have time to play games and do stuff like this during the winter when work is slow. So I'm hoping to get as good at this as possible by spring.

Actually making a dungeon was never on the list of things I wanted to accomplish with modding but I view it as part of the process.

I was playing around with it tonight and I found the segment I needed. It was listed as a small hallway extension in the big Nordic hallway section. I wouldn't have known what to look for without your help... I never would have guessed to look for it anywhere but the small hallway section. Thanx again.

I'd sill be happy to have your input on my first dungeon if you want to look at it...
