Because archers can easily get ridiculously overpowered?

Not using any artifact, I could kill an entire room of enemies without getting noticed.

well this is a single player game, and they already made smithing and other skills/spells overpowered. But those are some good ideas, im missing artefact bows too.

I think the OP is more referring to the lack of a unique model. There is only one sorta "unique" bow model in the game.

That said, I think we may actually have more viable unmodded bow choices in this game than in any previous TES game.

Morrowind had a lot of variety, but only a few bows were really worthwhile without modding. Oblivion had about the same amount of variety, but again most of the low-end bows were vendor trash.

In this game, if you so choose, you could smith a hunting bow to have 200-300 dmg without too much exploiting. I actually enjoy doing this since I don't like most of the high-end bow options. I am looking forward to some unique bow models from mod makers though.

The OP's argument certainly holds but I would recommend looking towards unique effects that DON'T add power to the bow. Maybe a bow that's as powerful in base damage as a Daedric bow but is improved under the Glass Smithing perk instead.

The infinite arrows is a good idea but I would do that in an upgradeable fashion: it starts with iron arrows and if you want to a better type of arrow you have to input 1k arrows of that type in it or something (say if you want it to have infinite dwarven arrows you have to "sacrifice" 1k dwarven arrows to it).

That would also make daedric arrows more usable, cause let's face it who ever uses those except for boss battles? (i've barely collected 300 in 150 hours of play, and that includes all the dwarven centurions and like monsters I could find).

Or what if the bow improved up to daedric base damage with some random skill?

Hey, I should probably have been more specific about what I saw a lack of bows in the game. The posters who have mentioned some of the existing weapons are completely right, but what I like about 'artifacts' is their unique enchantments which do interesting things (as opposed to simply X frost damage X stamina damage or what have you). So whatever I end up making will have

a) A unique appearance

b) A function which can't be found in existing random loot

c) A difficult quest to obtain

The two ideas I'm really liking so far are a bow which generates its own arrows (and I agree that their might need to be subsequent quests to upgrade their quality, a la Ebony Blade) and a bow which generates a lightning strike from the sky when it hits. I particularly like the second because it's just an awesome visual effect, particularly coming from a clear sky without a cloud in sight. Who doesn't want to smite enemies with lightning bolts?

Personally would love to see a bow that endows the archer with more firing speed, Legolas comes to mind from LOTR, he seemingly fired arrows like his bow was a semi-automatic weapon, and I really wish I had the game for PC so I could take advantage of faster arrow mods, cuz vanilla they travel seemingly about 1/3 as fast as they should. I wish the "archer perk tree" had about 3 more levels of increased fire rate. Edited by Trick13
