TactlessNinja
I've noticed a few mods that are based around roleplaying in Skyrim, and people mentioning their RP characters, but one question has always appeared in my mind: How on earth do you actually RP on Skyrim? Only thing I can think of is just... Talking to myself, or in my head while things are happening or something, or maybe not doing this/joining a faction because your character is supposedly against it. But even that feels a bit limited. I just can't seem to understand it. Is it even fun? Do explain lol, this is a curious and serious question.
Iv000
Here are a few role playing suggestions:http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Roleplaying Personally, what I do is create a backstory for my character, then create a story while playing. Also, I eat 3 meals a day, sleep regularly etc. It's really fun creating stories, they're a lot more memorable then just playing the game.
faifh
Maybe not doing this/joining a faction because your character is supposedly against it. Exactly, maybe you as player start to hate Ulfric soon enough (like I did), a Roleplayer might still be able to play a fascistic nord, that would most likely been drawn toward him. (not arguing here if Ulfric actually is or not, enough discussion about this already, just saying a Nord of that style would rather join him) I tend to take a light take on roleplay ocassionaly and enjoy, like running around in a city not in dragonbones, but wearing fine clothes to do city business. I also deal wield a dagger and a sword, simply because there is no real fighting style with two long swords known to man. Sword and parrying dagger is as far as human humans can take it (and unluckily, Skyrim doesnt allow you to parry with the parrying dagger, but well, its the idea that counts). I also feel inclined to say hello to my spouse at least once a week, albeit the game doesn't care if you forget about her or him for months. So its not a hugh back story for me, but a little not-powerplaying-in-favor-of-roletaking here and there. Edited January 14, 2012 by faifh
NordicMist
I just can't seem to understand it. Is it even fun? Do explain lol, this is a curious and serious question. Fun? Not really. I bought Skyrim in the hope it would improve my RP experience. Instead, it's now gathering dust. In its current state, with its limited dialog choices and lack of npc depth, the new magic and stats system, the empty towns and the bandit/monster to citizen ratio, I can't RP on Skyrim. I'm still waiting for Bethesda to release the CK and hoping for a serious RP overhaul mod.
faifh
I just remember Ultima 4 that tracked your personality traits through actions, like generousness, bravery etc. and have people react on your personality the game thinks you play. I think this is an awesome idea that has been lost. (Albeit Ultima 4 made you to become "the avatar" who had to symbolize all "good" traits, this mechanic might better be left forgotten, like saying no to a single beggar when you enter a town, or simply ignoring him, removed your generousness flag, and threw you back in the quest to get it again, that was harsh and really took some planning to have all 8 or 9 flags present at once)

Hurmferd
I have two characters, one I play for advancement without roleplaying and the other I play Dead-is-Dead with some roleplaying elements. I enjoy playing both characters. My non-roleplay, non-Dead-is-Dead character is great for running around and just experiencing the world and system, playing fast and loose. My Dead-is-Dead roleplaying character, on the other hand, provides very thoughtful, slow and intense game sessions. Once he dies, I can't restart him and must start another character. So I take my time to ensure that he's well equipped and has a companion (to avoid dying) and since I'm playing much slower, I add roleplaying elements such as sleeping each night and eating every morning. If I know that I have a difficult battle that day (such as a dragon fight) and a possible death, then I prepare myself by sitting at a table with my companion and eating an excellent meal, knowing that it may be my last. And when I enter dungeons or battle, the tension is extreme! I hope that this helps. H. Edited January 14, 2012 by Hurmferd
