We can't oppress those who upload such pictures by giving low ratings simply for that, it's unfair - but rating is the only thing we can do at all. I admire your patience if those pictures don't bother you, but that is a rare virtue. Besides, many of us here upload pictures as well - and those pictures go unnoticed, often unfairly. Its about encouraging screenshot artists to do better work. Sometimes encouragemant must come in the form of constructive criticism, like it or not. I'm not out to disparage anybody for the pictures that they post, and if you'll look back on the previous pages of this thread, you'll see that I'm all for the freedom to post what you want. The very first post says it and again please don't post a reply just to stand on my head because you disagree with me. Somebody must have taken something a little too much to heart because they lowered my rating on my profile page. In a way it's good because it means I struck a cord in somebody. I couldn't really care less about my rating. I myself know what its like to be critiqued for my images, I've had low rated images, and did I get all hurt and leave the site? Doesn't look like it to me. I learned from the criticism of others. Thats the whole point of the rating system. I may rate some images low, but I also rate others high and I always try to leave a reasonable, non-malicious explanation for my rating. Rate them as they deserve is all I'm saying and naturally, the opinions of different people are going to vary. If you dont like mine, well, that is the beauty of freedom. We just want others to try to understand us, not force them out. Really, it even pains to see someone talented and skilled with pictures uploading some "Just random screenshot" thing. Honestly, I feel that you've all missed the point of the Image Share section. Its purpose is not to entertain you. I've always appreciated the difference between the ratings on this site and the ratings on FileFront. Offering a lower rating to a picture that doesn't tickle your fancy is not acceptable in my opinion. The "punishment" v. "encouragement" debate is one that crops up in many places (especially the American public school system). In my experience, "punishment" (read: negative ratings) only serves to piss people off. Do you honestly believe that, after seeing your low ratings, certain unnamed uploaders will "see the error of their ways" and begin creating masterpieces? In my experience, one of two things will happen: they will either grow discouraged and leave the site, or they will upload even more dreg for the sole purpose of pissing you off. deadnerzhul Posted April 19, 2008 Share Posted April 19, 2008 My reply to this is simple but effective, and something that took me some time to learn as a boy, but it eventually helped me for my (present) future. I had a problem with controlling feelings and releasing my aggression properly, but everything changed when I learned to just ignore the things that bother me and move on with my life. Big deal, they post the same pictures! herosinger is correct. If you lower their ratings, they'll keep on doing it to annoy you. Yes I do believe that people will improve. It'll just take time. No one is going to produce masterpieces from the start. I didn't (and still don't), you didn't did you? I've seen your images and most of them are quite good. Do you think they would have been if you hadn't recieved any constructive criticsm. Critism is motivational. What it motivates you to do depends on your maturity and personality. Maybe this is a little harsh, but I think that if it causes some people to quit instead of grow, we might be better off with them gone. I know, I'm an A**hole, and I accept that, but I'm fair, and I'm not going to baby somebody to avoid conflict. I don't expect anybody to treat me with kid gloves either. You said it yourself, do unto others. Also, Deadnerzhul I see what you are saying but, if we seek solace in ignorance, the problem (if you are one of us that believes there is a problem) will only get worse. History should have taught you that. (ex. Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Saddam, Osama) And BTW, what's the point of the Internet if not to entertain?
