surg23
I have been living out of a mine for the past 2 months and the time has come to buy a real home. Problem is that the only house i am interested in (to suit my character) is apparently only purchasable after picking sides with either the Imperials or Stormcloaks, personally i think they are all idiots and have no intention of ever siding with either factions. My current character is evil beyond imagining and kills members from both factions regularly. I have also not done a single main quest, dragons are not even in my game yet and i'm loving it. But i want this house, and although i hate cheating and using console commands i fear it's the only way to keep my roleplaying elements intact. So my question is this: Is it possible to purchase Hjerim through console or exploit that does not involve doing civil war quests ?
chanchan05
Do the Blood on Ice quest. That will let you buy the house.
surg23
Do the Blood on Ice quest. That will let you buy the house. I have already completed Blood on the Ice, that is not the only prerequisite. Quote from the wiki: "Hjerim is purchasable having sided with either The Empire or Stormcloaks. Once allied with the Stormcloaks, the Fort Neugrad mission must be completed before Jorleif will make the house available for sale."
chanchan05
Really? Weird. I sided with the Imperials before I bought the house so I can't be sure. My friends just told me that you needed that quest too, but in my case, I got it without.

There are two versions of requirements needed. 1) Side with Stormcloaks and finish the Fort Neugrad mission. 2) Side with Imperials and finish the whole questline. Blood on the Ice will trigger the first time you have set foot in Hjerim as it's owner. Thanks for replies though.

And, thanks to bugs, is probaly unusable if you do it that way.
surg23
Well i just realized that in order to finish one of the Stormcloak quests needed for Hjerim, you need to do the First main quest that makes Dragons start spawning, which is out of the question for my character. I guess i better start looking for another house that doesn't require me to save the world to be able to buy it. ... Btw i'm keeping this crown Ulfric, go wear a potato on your head. alsoran
Theres an abandoned house in Markath which you can keep, but to get you'll have to be a bit mean. Else you could marry someone with a house and live in their house.

Else you could marry someone with a house and live in their house. Does this house have an Alchemy table and a non-respawning chest ? ... These are the only things i need. Oh and when you say "Mean" i hope this involves murdering a few people. Thanks for the info. :)
surg23
Well scrap that idea, i've found a nice secluded shack with an Alchemy lab with safe containers which is pretty nice, apart from having no doors and the occasional Troll trashing the joint.
