Rennn
I've had Morrowind for a while, but didn't play it much. I mostly bought it because I really wanted it when I was younger, around 2003, but could never get it due to having a very low-end pc. I also bought it out of loyalty to the Elder Scrolls series. I tried installing a lot of mods, but I usually found a way to break my game with MGE (it never worked right for me :( ), so I gave up for a year or so after finally buying it. I just installed The Total Morrowind Overhaul, Graphics and Sounds 2.0, and I have to say, Morrowind is the best game ever made now :)I always thought people were exaggerating about how bad Oblivion was compared to Morrowind (and I love Oblivion), but now that modded Oblivion and modded Morrowind have roughly equal graphics, it's unreal how much better of a game Morrowind is. I really think Bethesda could update Morrowind with that mod, make it available for sale online, and it would be better than 99% of modern games. That would really be a terrible idea since I like mods being free and all that, but just as an example, that's how good it is. I never had time to notice before since all I could focus on was how bland the graphics were, but the style is better, the atmosphere is better, and I don't absolutely hate the lore like I did in Oblivion. The only downside is that during heavy rain, outdoors, in Balmora I now get about 20 fps. On a more positive note, in most outdoor areas I get 40+ fps and in most buildings I get 180+ fps.Yay for Morrowind.
mythicdawnmaster
I admit, i recently downloaded that, and i am extremely impressed it looks divine! But i am Having some major issues, first of all, all of the plants in the ascadian isles and their surrounding cities are completely solid, so i cannot walk anywhere in the wilderness, because every plant is like a brick wall :( And then, after playing it, i turned it off, and when i tried to launch morrowind again i got a render load error :( Apart from that the mod is fabulous
Denina
I had thought about installing the Overhaul but I was reluctant to due to not knowing any downsides to having it and not being able to walk in the wilderness would be too much of a downside for me since that's mostly what I do. I'm kind of bummed about that. Does that mod also overwrite the .ini? Is that what causes those render errors? Otherwise, I can't understand why an uninstalled mod should cause that kind of issue. mythicdawnmaster
To be honest i am not sure, it seems i am the only one with this problem, the one where the plants are like brick walls i mean, but i have an older version of the overhaul, perhaps they have fixed all of this in the new version? Rennn
I had that 'invisible brick wall' problem when I didn't install the mod to a clean Morrowind install. That problem was in my version 1.1, btw. As I said, version 1.1 broke quite quickly for me, since I immediately installed the 1.2 update wrong and never really got a chance to play before. I have had no issues with 2.0 so far. After I uninstalled Morrowind, reinstalled 2.0 freshly, and installed the Overhaul 2.0, the invisible walls went away. (99% of them at least, since I think I hit one once in 2.0, in a pool of water where debuggers might have easily missed it) Edited January 15, 2012 by Rennn
Evilllamas
I installed overhaul 2.0 aswell, it looked really really nice! But It never ran above 20fps...And my computer is pretty decent (i7, 6gb RAM, GTX 295)20fps obiously wasn't aceptable- so now I'm running the game with just a few basic texutre mods, and the better bodies/ heads- and loving it! Dubnoman
Does anybody have an idea of how my system would run the game with this mod? Specs: Phenom II X4 955 Black EditionRadeon HD 5750 1 GB4 GB 1600 RAMWindows 7 64-bit If my system couldn't run it too well (I'm looking for a consistent 30 fps or more), what graphics mods should I get for it? I'd like to give this game a chance since I hear how good it is. Edited February 6, 2012 by Dubnoman

I'd like to give this game a chance since I hear how good it is. Those are very similar to my specs. My guess would be you'll run it at an average 30 fps on fairly high settings. I sometimes drop to 20, if I'm in a town near thick grass and it's raining, but I have it set mostly to high settings as well. I get 70+ FPS indoors, and 30-40 outdoors most of the time. You'll definitely be able to make it look good, but it won't look as good as possible and still give you a solid framerate. My guess would be you'll get 30 fps everywhere if you set it to middle settings (which will still probably look better than vanilla Oblivion, btw). A good tip is, after it gives you the option of choosing what you want the town of Balmora and the surrounding region to look like, make it as low-end as possible. Balmora can kill framerates will the Overhaul installed. Edited February 6, 2012 by Rennn

Maybe I'll beat Oblivion some day if I find some great mods for it (haven't looked around). So, after I've played more Skyrim, I'd like more TES, so maybe Morrowind with a graphics mod is what I'm looking for. I just know that it is harder, and doesn't have fast travel (a feature I don't always use, but it comes in handy, IMO). Still, I'd like to check out Morrowind. Does this Morrowind Overhaul 2.0 work with Morrowind GOTY from Steam? Or should I buy the Morrowind GOTY DVD? What are some good Morrowind character model enhancer mods? Do they enhance the character animations, too?

Do they enhance the character animations, too? I'd go with the CD (Morrowind didn't have DVD that I know of) instead of Steam. I've heard of Steam messing up a few mods, but I have no idea about the Overhaul. The CD just sounds safer if you can find them for similar prices. Definitely GOTY, by the way. Really the only good widely used character enhancer is Better Bodies and Better Faces. They don't come with new animations, but I've seen a few floating around the Nexus or Planet Elder Scrolls. The good side to such a lack of variety is that virtually every mod ever made for Morrowind is compatible with them, including basically every clothing mod. Morrowind has terrible combat. It needs mods to make it playable after seeing Skyrim, but the exploration is better than Oblivion's and comparable to Skyrim's. Morrowind does have a form of fast travel, and you'll probably need it more since the land area is and/or feels larger. You can quick travel via specific boats and Silt Strider stations.
