Wond'ring aloud

how we feel today.

Last night sipped the sunset

my hands in her hair.

We are our own saviours

as we start both our hearts beating life

into each other.

Wond'ring aloud

will the years treat us well.

As she floats in the kitchen,

I'm tasting the smell

of toast as the butter runs.

Then she comes, spilling crumbs on the bed

and I shake my head.

And it's only the giving

that makes you what you are.

Jethro Tull

^One of my favorite artists (ian anderson), I'll never forget being there live!

People -- what have you done --

locked Him in His golden cage.

Made Him bend to your religion --

Him resurrected from the grave.

He is the god of nothing --

if that's all that you can see.

You are the god of everything --

He's inside you and me.

So lean upon Him gently

and don't call on Him to save

you from your social graces

and the sins you used to waive.

The bloody Church of England --

in chains of history --

requests your earthly presence at

the vicarage for tea.

And the graven image you-know-who --

with His plastic crucifix --

he's got him fixed --

confuses me as to who and where and why --

as to how he gets his kicks.

Confessing to the endless sin --

the endless whining sounds.

You'll be praying till next Thursday to

all the gods that you can count.

For the brave:

That first vid was farout,he's one passionate dude.In younger days Jethro Tull was all i'd listen to.

Their music was just so different. The mixture of styles and the unpredictability was what got me.

This is from another artist i haven't heard for a while.Ricky Lee Jones.Gritty stuff...

There was a Joe

Leanin' on the back door

A couple Jills with their eyes on a couple bills

Their eyes was statin'

They was waitin'

To get their hands on some easy money

They flipped a dime

One said " well, I'll take heads this time"

One stepped up

One stepped back

One loosened her shoulder strap

She couldn't speak,

Her knees got weak

She could almost taste that easy money

There was this old black cat

Sittin' in a old black cadillac

The Joe smelled sweet

She curled up at her boyfriend's feet

She said "I got a plan

Listen, Sam, how'd ya like to make some easy money ? "

He say, "yes! oh yes!

Jus' tell me what you want me to do "

She said, "Baby, you can trust me

Baby, but you must be hidin' in my room

At a quarter to two"

Well, the cat told the boy

"Come up to the room and play with my toy"

But the Jill set the bait

And she wasn't gonna sit around and wait

But this guy was wise to all the lies

And he flies out the door

With the easy money

Because there ain't no man

Who got the money in his hand

Who got any of that bread

Bein' slow in the head

The easier it looks

The hotter it hooks

There ain't no such thing as easy money

We say, "yes! oh yes!"

Saturday night

There was a terrible, terrible fight

Between two dames who was losin' the same game

It wasn't clear,

But I hear somebody was lookin' for some easy money

Well they say a man should always dress

For the job he wants

So why am I dressed like a pirate

In this restaurant?

It's all because some hacker

Stole my identity

Now i"m in here every evening

Serving chowder and ice tea

Shoulda gone to free credit report dot com

I coulda seen this comin' at me like an atom bomb

They monitor your credit

And send email alerts

So you don't don't end up selling fish

To tourists in t-shirts

Such a classic...

A fav from a fav group, always relevant to me, today it's relevant to the forum.

My Culture - by 1 Giant Leap

I’m the sum total of my ancestors

I carry their DNA

We are representatives of a long line of people

And we cart them around everywhere

This long line of people

That goes back to the beginning of time

And when we meet, they meet

other lines of people

And we say bring together the lines of me

When I look back over the years

At the things that brought tears to my eyes

Papa said we have to be wise to live long lives

Now I recognize what my father said before he dies

Vocalize things I’ve left unsaid

Left my spirit unfed for too long

I’m coming home to my family

Where I can be strong

Be who I planned to be

Within me, my ancestry

Givin’ me continuity

Would it be remiss to continue in this way

Would you rather I quit

Come with the other sh-t

Making people’s hips sway

Lip service I pay, but I’m nervous

I pray for all the mothers who get no sleep

Like a lifeline, I write lines ’cause my compassion is deep

For the people who fashioned me my soul to keep

And this is who I happen to be

And if I don’t see that I’m strong, then I won’t be

This is what my Daddy told me

I wished he would hold me

A little more than he did

But he taught me my culture

And how to live positive

I never wanna shame

The blood in my veins or bring pain

To my sweet grandfather’s face, in his resting place

I make haste to learn and not waste

Everything my forefathers earned

in tears For my culture

Fall back again

Crawl from the warm water

For my culture

Water to air

You’re on your feet again

Your feet again

Hello Dad, remember me?

I’m the man you thought I’d never be

I’m the boy who you reduced to tears

Dad, I’ve been lonely for 27 years

Yeah, that’s right, my name’s Rob

I’m the one who landed the pop stars job

I’m the one who you told, “Look, don’t touch”

And the kid who wouldn’t amount to much

I believe in the sense of sight and sound

I have always been too loud

Won’t you help me drown it out?

I’m what I feel

And what I’m feeling is surreal

I’m a mass of spinnin’ wheels,

always digging in my heels

but now I've got the faith to

Fall back again

Crawl from the warm water

Water to air

You’re on your feet again

Your feet again

...

This is what my Daddy told me

I wished he would hold me

A little more than he did

But he taught me my culture

And how to live positive

I never wanna shame

The blood in my veins and bring pain

To my sweet grandfather’s face, in his resting place

I make haste to learn and not waste

Everything my forefathers earned in tears

For my culture

Fall back again

Crawl from the warm water

Water to air

You’re on your feet again

Your feet again

For my culture

Fall back again

Crawl from the warm water

Water to air

You’re on your feet again

Your feet again

For my culture

Wonderfully, it's finally been youtubed, though with much snippage from the original:

Tom Waits is one of the best songwriters (and worst vocalists) in the world; two of my favorites by him, both from the album Blue Valentines.

Christmas Card From a Hooker In Minneapolis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktCocv-bBDg

hey Charley I'm pregnant

and living on 9-th street

right above a dirty bookstore

off Euclid avenue

and I stopped taking dope

and I quit drinking whiskey

and my old man plays the trombone

and works out at the track.

and he says that he loves me

even though its not his baby

and he says that he'll raise him up

like he would his own son

and he gave me a ring

that was worn by his grandmother

and he takes me out dancin

every saturday nite.

and hey Charley I think about you

everytime I pass a fillin' station

on account of all the grease

you used to wear in your hair

and I still have that record

of Little Anthony & the Imperials

but someone stole my record player

how do you like that?

hey Charley I almost went crazy

after Mario got busted

so I went back to Omaha to

live with my folks

but everyone I used to know

was either dead or in prison

so I came back in Minneapolis

this time I think I'm gonna stay.

hey Charley I think I'm happy

for the first time since my accident

and I wish I had all the money

that we used to spend on dope

I'd buy me a used car lot

and I wouldn't sell any of em

I'd just drive a different car

every day dependin on how

I feel.

hey Charley

for chrissakes

do you want to know

the truth of it?

I don't have a husband

he don't play the trombone

and I need to borrow money

to pay this lawyer

and Charley, hey

I'll be eligible for parole

come valentines day.

$29.00 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69J_UUjEOs8

little black girl in a red dress

on a hot night with a broken shoe

little black girl you shoulda never left home

theres probly someone still waitin up for you

its cold back in Chicago

but the Los Angeles street is worse

when all you got is $29.00 and an alligator purse

i see that vulture in the fleetwood

with the chartreuse hood

can see you're trying to get your bearings

and you say hey baby, which ways the main stem

and where ever you say you're from

he'll say he grew up there himself

gonna' comeon and make you feel

like you grew up right next door to him

take a left on Central

gonna' throw it in reverse

cause you only got $29.00 and an alligator purse

gonna' come on like a gentleman

and you'll be a little shy

you say your ex old man was a sax player

he'll say baby i used to play bass for sly

you say you like his cadillac,

say honey i got 2 or 3

sweetheart you're sure fortunate

that you ran into me

when you've done a dime in the joint

you figure nothin could be worse

than $29.00 in an alligator purse

well he got pharoh on the 8 track

you start smokin a little boo

you thinkin gettin out of Chicago was jus' about the

best thing ever happened to you

you're likin' it already

this cat seems to be cool

he say baby I know a good hotel out in west hollywood

be just right for you

but he ain't no good samaritan

he'll make sure he's reimbursed

lot more than $29.00 and an alligator purse

now when the streets get hungry, baby

you can almost hear 'em growl

someone's setting a place for you

when the dogs begin to howl

when the streets are dead

they creep up and take whatever's left on the bone

suckers always make mistakes

when they're far away from home

Chicken in a pot

Whoever gets their first

Gonna get himself 29.00

and an alligator purse

now the siren's just an epilogue

the cops always get there too late

they always stop for coffee

on the way to the scene of the crime

always try so hard to look like movie stars

but they couldnt catch a cold

baby don't waste your dime

she's lucky to be alive

the doctor whispered to the nurse

she only lost a 1/2 pint of blood

$29.00 and an alligator purse

There is just enough Christ in me

To make me feel almost guilty

Is that why God made us bleed

To make us see we're Humans Being?

You break this, I'll break all that

You break my balls with all your crap

Spread your disease like lemmings breeding

That's what makes us Humans Being

Shine on, shine on

Shine on, shine on

(Guitar Solo)

Yeah! Some low life flat head scum infects

The sickness in his eyes reflects

You wonder why your life is screaming

Wonder why we're Humans Being

Shine on, shine on

Shine on, shine on

(Guitar Solo)

Humans, Humans Being

We're just Humans (That's what makes us)

Humans Being (That's what makes us)

We're just humans (That's what makes us)

Humans Being (That's what makes us) We're just humans (That's what makes us)

Humans Being (That's what makes us)

Humans Being!

We're just humans (That's what makes us)

Humans Being (That's what makes us)

Humans Being!

Here I stand, helpless and left for dead

Close your eyes, so many days go by

Easy to find what's wrong

Harder to find what's right

I believe in you

I can show you that I can see right through

All your empty lies, I won't stay long

In this world so wrong

Say goodbye,

As we dance with the devil tonight

Don't you dare look at him in the eye

As we dance with the devil tonight

Trembling, crawling across my skin

Feeding your cold, dead eyes

Stealing the life of mine

I believe in you

I can show you that I can see right through

All your empty lies, I won't last long

In this world so wrong

Say goodbye,

As we dance with the devil tonight

Don't you dare look at him in the eye

As we dance with the devil tonight

Hold on

Hold on

Say goodbye,

As we dance with the devil tonight

Don't you dare look at him in the eye

As we dance with the devil tonight

Hold on

Hold on

Ozark mountain daredevils

ooh-hoo, jackie blue

lives her life from inside of a room

hides that smile when she's wearin' a frown

ooh jackie, you're not so down

you like your life in a free-form style

you'll take an inch but you'd love a mile

there never seems to be quite enough

floating around to fill your lovin' cup

ooh-hoo, jackie blue

what's a game, girl, if you never lose

ask a winner and you'll prob'bly find

ooh jackie, they've lost at sometime

don't try to tell me that you're not aware

of what you're doing and that you don't care

you say it's easy, just a nat'ral thing

like playing music but you never sing

ooh-hoo, jackie blue

making wishes that never come true

going places where you've never been

ooh jackie, you're going again

ooh-hoo, jackie blue

likes a dream that can never come true

making love is like siftin' through sand

ooh jackie, it slips through your hand

ev'ry day, in your indigo eyes

I watch the sun set but I don't see it rise

moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine

you'd take the world but you won't take the time

ooh-hoo, jackie blue

lives her life from inside of a room

makes you think that her life is a drag

ooh jackie, what fun you have had.
