Custom armor vats crash

Recommended Posts

I am trying to add a custom armor set. I followed the tutorial on the wiki. The models are all working fine and acceptably animated.

But when i give it to an npc and try to aim at him in vats, it immediately crashes to desktop. It has several pieces, (an underarmor and some accessories), and no matter which piece i give them, it crashes.

I've tried to add proper vats segments in outfit studio, didnt help. (As far as i know it should work with the default segments outfit studio adds, just working weird)

Can anybody help?

I guess it could be the skin partitions, something like that. See the shapes have to be exported with a 2D skin map, which is the highlighted area inside V.A.T.S. (to select body parts). That's pretty old now though, could be different, but you might could start there. I know they use outfit studio to do some of that stuff. Sorry I haven't gotten a 3D art workstation/workflow for Sky/FO4 ever assembled all that well.

I've tried with both seemingly correct segment data and how it comes out of outfit studio by default (full torso, no dismemberment), both caused crash

After that i re-did the whole process for the underarmor/base armor, which was blender model -> obj -> outfit studio fitting and bone weight copy from vanilla base body -> correct weights -> export nif, and now it seems to work without crash, however i skipped the segment paint part so its just one giant torso without dismemberment now. At least it doesn't ctd when i enter vats.

I don't think there is another way (or at least i couldnt find any) to add correct vats values/dismemberment other than painting them in outfit studio using vanilla bodies/armors as a guide. All i can think of that i'll try to experiment with painting until something "stable" comes out

Anyway, thanks for the help.

EDIT: There is a value in every segment called "parent array index" in nifskope. It has a long number as a value, the same for every segment. And for some reason every torso segment value was missing the last digit (5) for me, probably because i was using an outdated version of nifskope months ago when i first tried to add the armor, and it somehow stuck, outfit studio didnt correct it. So it was my derp.

Thank you for that, i had an similar issue with my custom outfit (every mesh is exported from Blender as OBJ / imported in Outfit Studio), and i also had the last digit missing on my skirt.

I want to know whats causing this, is this an issue with the CBBE body or with Outfit Studio?
