DiseasedPunk
I'm not sure if anyone has ever thought of this but why not create a TC thats quite small but complete in story, perhaps start as a small island. Sort of like short stories if you will. Expansions could then be relased on those to expand that world. Doing so would create an entirely new world to romp around it and could be released quite quickly since its very small.
TheUnforgiven
Its a good idea. I've wanted to do a TC but I need a scripter to script the new starting location and such. As I cant do that.
ohGr
how conveinient, im working on something like that, although its a solo thing, ive got someone working on a script for me just for a bit of help, and someone who can help me out with ideas for quests, so far its a fairly big island, its got a town like mounhold, except its cursed by constant rain, a dungeon guarded by zombies and golems (giants mod), and in the end, you can controll the weather, except the day night thing...thatll ruin the timecycles. Slaiv
So its sort of like Advent Rising, a game planned for XBox in which humans are a lost race [like the dinosaurs.] You are one, and you start out with guns and sh*t, but by the end you just point your finger at a crowd of people and they go flying..... Something like that?
TheUnforgiven
I think he means just starting with an small island the first version. Next one release another island or two..and so on
Almelexia
That would be a great idea. And if you have explored a whole island then after a expansion you will have more islands. And in that way you will never see the whole world at once, like in morrowind you can explore the whole world when ever you want and it is quite easy to explore the whole island. Slaiv
exactly. uh.... that way it would be easier on the DEV....
ensis
I have a very basic map drawn up of a series of islands that I was going to use for my own idea such as this (but on a larger scale). I don't see why we can't use that map to start making islands. I'd just need to get it scanned and uploaded somehow.
DiseasedPunk
I think he means just starting with an small island the first version. Next one release another island or two..and so on Exactly :D, you have a sizable island that starts the story and it has enough stuff to keep people occupied for a short time while the next expansion is being worked on. Eventually over time you have an entire world with new content coming out on a regular basis so you never get bored :P. As an example take a look at an mmorpg, they have a basic word that you roam around in, then new expansions come out making it bigger, however with this the the starting world would not need to be "huge". Eventually over time new features are programmed in based on ideas the players provide. New areas and so on and new bits of story.
ohGr
well, this is all ive been able to do sculpt the land (lots of water :D )made its own reigon, and set it to 100 on thunder, so now itll always rain/thunderset up 3 npc's, did a little misc quest, smith asks for help, kill guy in bar, guard questions you, guard walks off, smith rewards you with free repairing. small things like that, ive already got the ruin made out, and its lookin good, lots of zombies and golems, even liches, so its clearly not for the early player, but i was thinking of this island to be something like a 2nd last one you go to, before the final one with a huge battle that will lag my computer in the end. but, it all depends on what the public think (you people), and when it comes out, no bugs, all ready and if everyone likes it, ill work on 2 more islands, them a main island, then a big chain, followed by some mediumish to large ones that might follow on to a second part of the main quest. time will tell.
