Official High-Res DLC Separate Plugins

I was pretty hyped about the official High Res DLC until I looked at the recommended specs for it. 58 GB of storage space and a f*#@ing GTX 1080 to run it smoothly? Come on Bethesda.

Obviously a large portion of us won't be able to download such a demanding texture pack (according to Bethesda) so I have a bit of a request to make. Someone should take folders containing the armor, weapon, power armor and all other "player" texture upscales and release it as a separate download. I never had a problem with vanilla landscapes, buildings, furniture etc, plus there's less demanding texture mods out there, but the weapons and armor and whatnot in the game have always seemed a bit low quality.

I'm not sure of the legality of this, considering it'll be free when it comes out, I guess you guys can educate me on whether the mod would be able to stay up on the Nexus or not.

Thanks for reading!

Well someone can make it, they just need to post it somewhere thats not the nexus, no one wants the nexus gone

that person can make a small youtube vid and a link to a hosting site, or another method idk

OR OP can simply download the whole pack and unpack the files, then choose whatever he wants and repack as ba2 with an empty plugin.

He's asking for the base files. Optimized textures grabbed those files and modified them.

Aha. So, from a purely technical perspective, the same could be done here - just run the textures through some "optimization" pipeline and voila, you have modified them.

I dont see anything illegal, not even remotely immoral about doing that - as long as the modder makes clear what it is and that he just repacked the textures.

What matters shoud be what Bethesda has to say about this - so, if someone can point to the relevant EULA paragraph or something like that? (of course, this new DLC could have a different EULA/whatnot, so maybe we should wait for the actual release).

Dont get me wrong, i am not saying it is ok to do this, i just find it very possible that it might be.
