Raiun
Hi there everyone. I've noticed that the same mesh is used for every single person in Oblivion, regardless of what mesh is in the game, the only difference is the face. I think that's pretty common knowledge. I'm curious if it would be possible to make the game recognize different meshes for certain characters, or different races? Does anyone know if this has been done before, or if it would be possible? I've spent a bit of time looking through a few different mod communities now, and while there is plenty of information on swapping meshes out, there is nothing I could find about making certain people have unique meshes. Thank you in advance-Raiun
evilkoal
the only way i know of doing this is to make a new race for each body mesh that you would want :\
LFact
The game won't allow use different body meshes for different race.. When you replace a body mesh, all races will use it. A workaround is, giving any race body textures for different body mesh, then wear the clothing for the body mesh.(for example, giving Ainmhi female BAB texture, then make all Ainmhi female to wear BAB clothes)
evilkoal
but then why does it allow for a different top/bottom mesh in the race menu?
DarkWarrior45
but then why does it allow for a different top/bottom mesh in the race menu? Good question. This is something that I am wanting to experiment with, and the issue raises the question, "are we missing something?"

(Except tail, you cannot assign different meshes per races)

Raiun
Ah, yeah. I know about the workaround by using clothing/armour parts instead of a new mesh, but I would prefer if there was some way to make them static. Clearly the male and female meshes are different. I wonder if there is some way to use different meshes, by creating new "genders"? It sounds silly, but if the game looks for a different mesh for each gender, and you can create a new gender class, you can make the mesh for that gender look like what you want.. Does anyone know if that is possible?

Does anyone know if that is possible?Nope, not possible. Things like that are hard coded into the game. Although there were attempts made using OBSE, that only applied to the player, they never panned out. There was also a different attempt where the entire body mesh was assigned to the tail slot, thus allowing different bodies based on race. But this idea didn't work out due to clipping issues with any sort of equipment, and pretty much requiring every piece of equipment to be remade in a manner that would not cause that sort of clipping. And would take away from the one "misc" slot that people have been using.
Raiun
I suspected as much. Ah well, that's a shame. Still, I guess if it can be done using equipment, that works just as well.. Thank you for your input, everyone.
