Followers won't use (enchanted) bows I give them?

I cannot seem to persuade my two lady followers to use a wonderfully enchanted Daedric bow I give them Instead they insist on using their own hunting bows.

 

I have removed their own (hidden/base) bows from their inventories, but they respawn. I recall Stenvar happily using the bow I gave him, and Faendal might have done (but he was killed by a dragon, so I can't check :) )

 

Is this something I'm doing wrong, or is it a "feature"?

yup, that is definitely happen to anyone, even that already remove the bow from them, but make sure you remove "all" the bow with showinvetory command console on them coz some of companion has more than one bow, and also try to removing all the arrow..guess this need to be tweak after CK out...

Mine is a bit more random in that Lydia uses my enchanted Ebony bow for awhile then goes back to her companion bow.

 

I think I remember removing it from her inventory and then giving it back to her and you see that she equips it right away so you know she is using it, but then sometime later she has gone back to her companion bow.

 

However, she is using the enchanted Ebony Greatsword I gave her ;)

I gave up trying to get Lydia to use an Enchanted bow. I compensate by using the best arrow glitch / feature. If you give a companion a single Daedric arrow, they will always use the best arrow they have and then spawn a new one every time they fire the bow. This can generate extra arrows for your PC because you will sometimes be able to loot these "free" arrows from slain enemies.

Easy fix

 

1.Showinventory on follower you want the bow on via console

2. find the id of the default hunting bow on the follower via console

3. removeitem XX 1000

 

X = where you put the ID

Usually mans Lydia is starting to "fill up" with invisible inventory. At some point layer in the game you won;t be able to use her feffectively because she will weight too much.

 

Game glitch: every time you ask a follower to join up the game adds some oitems to thier default inventory. Themore you use em the more junk they carry until they cannot carry anythingmore.

 

You actually see this in the fix ... the fix is to take all your added item out (the ones you can see) and use "removeallitems" coincil command. She strips down to her skivvies. When you put your first item back that you made you can see the hame adding default gear,. At that point she should be able to use your bow like the first time you found her.

 

They need to clean up these henchman.

I haven't no: but I will! Thanks for the tip, it'll certainly be easier than using the console each time. Having said that, Karliah's bow is a "game-created" bow, not one I enchanted myself - I wonder if that might make a difference. I'll try giving her Karliah's bow first, thanks.
