Dranorak
Just wanted to share my success in modifying my old Xbox controller to make it compatible with Skyrim on PC. Using a Xbox controller provides advantages because it provides for smoother (thumb-stick-controlled) movement (mainly helpful while filming) Mod your controller to USBFirst step is to mod the controller to USB (7-step guide video below) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5Z62fsPonU&hd=1 DriversNext you've got to get the right drivers and plug the controller in your PC. I used Super Joy Box 9, 10, 11for TigerGame Xbox controllerfrom: Mayflash.com XBCD should be an alternative for these drivers, but I couldn't get them to work on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (they did work on Windows 7 Professional x86 on my laptop). This driver can be downloaded from: redcl0ud.com Emulate as 360 controllerFinally you've got to emulate your regular Xbox controller as a 360 controller in able to let Skyrim recognize it as a compatible device. I succesfully emulated the USB Xbox controller as a 360 Xbox controller to work with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim using XBOX 360 Controller Emulator 2.0.2.158 from: http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads
Thor.
 Or you could go out and buy one natively. Its a lot easier. http://www.microsoft...ndows/52A-00004Most games even with pc are mapped out by default for the 360 pc controller, thats why i like it (: Edited January 19, 2012 by Thor. Syco21
I use my PS3 controller for Skyrim. I have it emulating the 360 controller so that it works fluidly with Skyrim without any effort. I love it. So much better than having to program all the individuals buttons yourself.
thesapien
Someone didn't know about native support for using a 360 controller with Skyrim. Plug and play. Tho I didn't know there were 360 controllers out there that weren't. BioWare games are the only ones I have to program the layout meself.
Syco21
The OP is talking about the original Xbox controller. As in the Duke or S pad. Not the 360 controllers.

Exactly  Of course you could go out and buy a Xbox 360 controller, but that'd be a waste of that old controller laying around, wouldn't it :turned:
JimboUK
How to you make up for the lack of shoulder buttons? Edit: Never mind, I forgot about the black and white buttons.
Ashven
Someone should just make and sell replacement breakaway cables (the end bits that come off) that fit the old Xbox controllers, but have USB plugs. I seriously think that would be easier and cheaper.

I seriously think that would be easier and cheaper. They are available :) However, assuming you have a spare USB device to cut the cable from and stated that tools can be reused, so their cost shouldn't be counted entirely, you are cheaper off doing this yourself (not counting the man hours, those I've tried to bring down with the tutorial anyway ^^). Easier, true  but half the fun of DIY.
