Thor's Hammer

Hi

 

Maybe some people have seen my version of Mjolnir, Thor's Hammer.

As it was an item done by request i didn't spend much time on it, especially the texturing process (because i REALLY hate texturing).

Seems there are a few people out there that want a good hammer, so MAYBE i find the time to create an overhauled version. Therefor i collect some input that i MIGHT gonna use IF i make another one.

 

And PLS nothing fancy, the CK isn't out yet so i don't wanna waste hours on stuff you can add in a few seconds after release...as well i'm not the best pro-modder ever, Skyrim is my first experience and i'm doing it for fun.

 

If there is already a modder out there, that works on a new version pls tell me so i stop even thinking 'bout doing one...so here are the ideas i already collected.

 

First priority:

- better textures and more details (knots, runes,symbols...)

- fix clipping (texture,hand,blood texture)

- better normal and specular map (light reflection, dark/bright)

 

Second priority:

- enchantement and effect (unrelenting force)

- two versions (one easy to obtain, one with a much more expensive/"lore friendly" *cough* recipe.)

 

As mentioned before, just basic edits without the CK, i'm limited to my mediocre skills and the actual tools- so no flying/returning hammer, fancy questline in Asgard, new animatios or transformation into a chinese schoolgirl with foxtail :D

 

AND i'm not sure WHEN / IF i gonna make it, atm i'm working on another request and as you see i'm in an early stage so it could take some time: http://666kb.com/i/c0k7eaocle2qkr0gw.jpg , i'm learning new things that takes time and i've got a RL as well so it's no sure thing.

 

So pls keep it basic and stay on the topic, when i look at those thousands of new threads each week i'm afraid we could end up with a list longer than the Chinese Wall :D

 

I will need one or two "beta tester" then as well IF i gonna make it.

Are you going to be going with the movie version of the hammer? If so, I would like the triquetra on the side, like in the movie.

Obviously, it needs a lightning enchantment, but we can take care of that ourselves.

 

Better textures, which you've already mentioned. This one looks too cartoony atm. Needs more metal look.

 

But if you manage to get that done, I'll gladly download and endorse. I've been waiting to roll a Thor character for months.

Well i plan to make my own version...this time i want to make my own textures without using images to copy them.

I already started to create the low polygon model, the shape will be something like that:

For the details and textures...many tutorials to study so it will take a while :D

Got the textures working. Thanks.

 

Regarding the specular mapping, I don't think its a problem with your textures, as I tried it with my own and got the same problem. There seems to be a wierd emissive colour from the mesh itself. It glows blue in certain lighting and in others doesn't respond to light at all.

I'll repeat this MAY be what's causing the strange colours to appear, experiment and see what happens I guess ...

 

Also check to see which "cubemap" (if any) it's pointing too ... I had a bit of trouble after installing the "Glowing Ore Veins" mod, as it GREATLY increased the brightness of certain "cubemaps" that correspond to various ores, as a consequence, any armor/weapon that pointed to that "cubemap' ended up almost glowing in the dark ...

As i already said several times, the hammer was my first release ever and i've plenty to learn :D

I just realized that i even didn't set up the UV to 4097 so there is no normal map...when i activate it the whole model looks crap...why? Cause i made many errors, the next release will be better cause i'm getting into it :)

@ghosu: You're further along with modelling than I am. I wouldn't know where to begin. Aside from a bit of Nifskope jiggery-pokery, I'm pretty much lost on modelling.

Keep it up though, the new model looks good, however the original can still be viable if tweaked.

 

@Perriane: The BSLIghtingShaderProperty on the Mjolnir mesh doesn't have those variables listed. I'm not sure if it's the mesh or my version of Nifskope and/or nif.xml. I'm pretty sure I've the latest versions of both.

Are you good at texturing? I've got a sword lyring around, the scabbard is finished but i need GOOD textures for the blade...it's a simple design and material but i dont get the correct shiny/new metal look ingame...so don't waste ya time on the hammer :D

 

It's just an user request but with GOOD textures i would release it on nexus and credit the person as well...i've got a texture for the blade itself lyring around, and it looks good ingame but the f*cking hilt...at least the part the player sees in first person should look good, it's just a plain metal part.

 

I would do it myself , or at least will do it when i got the time and the right texturing knowledge...it's np to get a nice look in Mudbox/C4D but it still looks like sh*t ingame ^^...so i have to watch a few hours of good tutorials, RL and my graphic jobs on another board keep me busy atm so no time left for the hilt.
