Geforce 970

This is so frustrating. I read people saying that they run FO4 on ultra with 60 fps with Geforce 970, yet I run it about 15-40 fps. Is there something that you can say? Noob, you havent even done this, changed this, turned this of, this off? I have 8 GB RAM, and AMD FX 6300 six core processor 3,5 GHz.

Oh, and I see Youtube videos of game with 970, running smooth as butter, nothing near that I get.

Do you have a conventional HDD or an SSD ?

Turn shadow distance down to medium / 3000, dont use bUseCombinedObjects=0 (Mods like Scrap Everything or Springcleaning require this change, but it kills your fps)

I'm not sure I can offer much since I'm not computer savvy, but I have the 970 and had a solid 60 fps. The recent hi-rez update brought me down to 40-50 mostly. Still on the fence if I'm going to keep it active.

What's your monitor screen refresh rate? Initially, I had mine set at 60 hz which locked me at 30 fps. I changed it to 120 hz which locked it at 60 fps.

Are you using any texture replacers? A lot of them like the Vivid series and Optimized Vanilla Textures will help your game run better. And yeah those scrap mods killed my fps downtown so I don't use them.

What a struggle to find these things out... I think I have HDD, as far as internet could guide me, though my comp starts really quick, about 10 secs to desktop. So cant really tell...

Ill have to check into refresh rate.

And Ive tried lowering settings, but paradoxically it seems, that I get the best FPS when I crank up everything to max, lower settings give less FPS.

I use some texture replacers, such as Vivid series. No scrap mods.

Oh and thank for replies everyone.

And oh, I used to have the same thing with Skyrim, in different comp, so maybe this is a Bethesda thing? If I come out of internal cell to a town, sometimes I get like 15 FPS, but when I go in and come out again, I might get like 40 FPS. It seems to be completely random thing.

EDIT: Check the refresh, its 60 Hz, cannot be changed.

If you click on Control Panel on the Start panel on your PC then go System and Security > System > Device Manager then "Disk Drives" it will give you the makers names of the drives. If you copy and paste the first one to a Google Search it will tell you what type of drive you have. There are lots of things which can slow your PC down but a mechanical HDD is one of the main ones.

Hi

Your FX 6300 is letting you down in this game. Like Skyrim this game rewards strong individual cores over the amount of cores you have.

Basically it is a Bethesda thing. You would get the frame rate with an i5 or i7 but not much else.

HDs are fine with this game as long as you don't mod it much. When I built my new gaming rig last year I went with a WD 5tb black. I could play all my games just fine on it except my older Fallout 4 saves. They were a stuttering mess. Unplayable. I put the game on a SSD & the saves became playable again.

Later.

Ok, thanks for all the answers. I did turn on the triple buffering from NVIDIA menu, it seemed to help a bit. Its just the Diamond City area thats stuttering now, and even it isnt always, just random lagging when moving around.

Another quick question about AA. Does anyone know how to get the flickering out? I mean the game looks great if I stand still, or walk slowly, but fast movements turns the trees and foliage lighter for a small second, then back to normal. I think it has something to do with antialiasing, momentarily seeing through the foliage better, and then when the movement stops, it kind of blends more, so it gets slightly "darker". I hope that someone understands what I mean...
