Nordinthelich
So just last night, I was playing Skyrim with all of my mods, no issues. Everything ran smoothly enough, all was well, but then I went to Riverwood to pick up a follower named Cecile. I arrived in the town, and nothing wrong yet. Then I went into the Riverwood Trader, asked him to follow me, and when I left the building, I was met with a painfully long load screen, followed by a crash. I tried again several times and continued to get the same issue. I even tried leaving without Cecile, thinking he was somehow the cause of this, and I still got that long load screen and then a crash. I went to restore a backup of my mods on NMM, as I had just added another follower from the same user who made Cecile, and thought perhaps that was why my game was acting up. The restore started, it disabled all of my mods, and then it told me that it could not find the restore file. I thought "Fine, no big deal, I'll just reactivate them all manually." I started to do so, but upon trying to activate YY Anim Replacer - Mystic Knight, NMM encountered an error and had to crash. After skimming the error report, it seems that NMM cannot access c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\Meshes\actors\character\animations\female and neither can I through the file explorer. It claims the animations folder is inaccessible, even though I have administrator rights. I am not really sure what I should do, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Fkemman11
Rescan your games with NMM. If NMM does not find the file path to your Skyrim folder then you will have to lead it there. As a suggestion, you do not need to restore a backup to resolve crash issues as that just sounds like a good way to screw things up for yourself. Better to just do some detective work and find the issue. If you still can't solve the problem someone here can probably help you. The first thing you need to do when asking for help is list your current mods and load order.

I have quite a few mods and typing it out manually would be a big pain. If not, that's fine, I just wanted to check.

Only solution I know of is not to install Skyrim in the "program files (x86)" folder on the drive, that Windows uses. Windows seems to regard said folder as some kind of "system folder" (though in fact, it isn't) and doesn't want it to be changed. To avoid this problem in the future, reinstall, create a custom folder outside of "program files (x86)" (something like C:\games\Skyrim or the like should work) - or install Skyrim on any hdd other than your system drive. Algabar
How do I change the download directory if I downloaded it through Steam? It's been a long time since I had to reinstall something via Steam... If I remember right, you have to uninstall the game from your local drive first. Go to the library, rightclick, choose "options", "remove from local drive" or something like that. Then rightclick Skyrim in your library again, click "install" or whatever it says - but this time specify an installation folder other than the default "program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim...".
