Going vanilla

I started my modding out doing manual installs. I installed maybe 5 mods that way before downloading NMM and trying to go forward with my mod use the automated way. Well now NMM refuses to open and it doesn't seem like all of my mods are opening anymore so I was thinking of wiping the slate clean and starting over. Is there an easy way to take my Skyrim directory back to its vanilla file load or would I have to go through and delete each individual mod file? The problem with that is I'm pretty sure a lot of the high res texture mods I installed just totally replaced vanilla texture files so I'm worried about screwing my game up.

Delete everything inside your data folder except the .BSA files then verify your game cach through Steam. Also remove any mods you have in NMM and then when Steam is done downloading start modding again.

+ some (not all) mods will "bake" certain data into your save file making your save dependent on having those mods being installed to run the "baked" save so just reinstall all the same mods through NMM you had before. Texture and model replacement mods are normally the exception to this and do not "bake" any data to your save. You can try starting your save with NO mods but if you try to load your save and get a crash reinstalling the exact mods you had before is a good place to start.

good luck
