stebbinsd
Generic gamepads are usually much cheaper than Xbox 360 gamepads. But the big question is ... will I be able to play my games using a generic gamepad? I'm posting this question in Skyrim, too.
iXenite
Probably. If not there are programs out there that will allow you to do so. Like Xpadder and stuff. Also, be sure to use Big Picture Mod if you're using a gamepad. If Steam has support for that gamepad it will detect it and allow you to bind keys and stuff for your games, similar to how their Steam Controllers are set up. stebbinsd
Probably. If not there are programs out there that will allow you to do so. Like Xpadder and stuff.Xpadder sucks for simulating real controller support. For example, if I'm trying to map the D-Stick to move my character, I should map the D-Stick to the WASD keys. However, if I do that, then the character will move in a given direction if my D-Stick is even eeeeeeeeeeeeeeever so slightly off center. Plus, it makes it impossible to simulate genuine sneaking. With real controller support, there are about twenty different speeds depending on how far I'm tiling the control stick. With a keyboard, however, there are only three speeds: Walk, run, and sprint. And I have to use other keys, besides the WASD keys, to adjust those speeds ... keys that I would have to map to other controller buttons if I were to use Xpadder. Also, be sure to use Big Picture Mod if you're using a gamepad. If Steam has support for that gamepad it will detect it and allow you to bind keys and stuff for your games, similar to how their Steam Controllers are set up.How do I download that? iXenite
Steam Big Picture mod is built into the Steam overlay. Steam Picture Mode:https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5006-ASLN-3202 As for Xpadder, or programs like it, I've never had problems with them. I've used programs for the PS3 and PS4 controllers in the past and they worked flawlessly for me. PS4 controllers are also officially supported by Steam's Big Picture Mode now too, so that makes it even easier now.
stebbinsd
That link specifically says that it only supports the Xbox 360 wired & wireless, and a Logitech wireless controller. I'm looking for wired because they're cheaper (which, in case you forgot, is the whole reason I prefer unbranded/generic gamepads in the first place). iXenite
That article was also written like 2 years ago. PS4 controllers are officially supported by Steams Big Picture Mode, yet it isn't listed there either. My PS4 controller works on a wired connection while in Steam Big Picture mode just fine, so I suggest you give it a try if you haven't already. They are continuously adding new controllers to support.
jjb54
I use the Logitech F310, only $20.00 +/- sales and such. It works great for all my games and I'm not going through Keyboards and a mouse as quickly. :) It is Plug-n-Play. They also have a Wireless one with Vibrate, which was a lot of fun too. Just a bit more money. .. Jj ...
